July 2018

Smooth motions at shortstop. Handled a chopper well, followed by sidearm toss to get a force at second. Lined a single into left field his first time, then had the best hit ball of his game later on when he ripped a sacrifice fly on a frozen rope to deep left. Second day update: Two hits, one on a curve that he went opposite field, the second a triple over the centerfielder. Very strong arm at shortstop, dealt with a bad hop that he knocked down before still throwing the runner out.

WNY All-Star Games (September 24, 2017)
Velletri checks in at 5-foot-11 180 pounds and is a right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively- Even stance with less of a lean then back in August. Short load and stride, staying behind the ball more consistently; middle of the field to opposite field contact approach. Exit velocity equaled prior best at 79 MPH. Defensively- Active approach with hands out in front; clean exchange with a low 3/4 sling release at 71 MPH. Maintaining momentum with an aggressive shuffle step through his throws will help improve carry and overall velocity.
Rochester (August 9, 2017)

Physical 5-foot-11 180 pound shortstop. Offensively- Spread stance with a slight lean at the belt; hands lead into the zone with a slight drift forward with his weight. Inside out swing path with results mostly to the opposite field. Exit velocity was 79 MPH. Defensively-  Controlled approach, stays on the balls of his feet. Some pushing of the ball in his release with arm strength at 71 MPH. Raw skills are there, improved arm and first step quickness will keep him in the middle of the field.
