Alejandro Covas: OF/OF, (2023) Walsh Jesuit, OH. 6-foot-1, 180-pound. Athletic during batting practice, Covas clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. (74.39 mph bat speed average). (21.81 mph hand speed average). Begins in an athletic stance with a smooth load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is above average, displays a simple flat swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels in his rounds. Gap to gap approach. Athletic his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 85 mph; had athletic rhythmic footwork, a fluid clean exchange, and soft consistent hands. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Showed a long arm action and decent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.52.

Alejandro Covas: OF/OF, (2023) Walsh Jesuit, OH. 6-foot, 175-pound. Athletic at the plate, Covas 97 mph exit velocity ranks him 2nd at the event. (71.34 mph bat speed average). (23.31 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was explosive, displayed a level swing plane and level finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Athletic in the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 88 mph;has a natural clean exchange, athletic feet, and soft hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Showed a compact arm action and consistent accuracy to the bag. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.61.

Alejandro Covas: OF/RHP, (2023) Walsh Jesuit, OH. 6-foot, 170-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Covas had a max exit velocity of 93 mph. Started in a wide balanced stance with a smooth quick load, then used a leg kick. Had a rotational level swing plane and quick bat speed. Above average from the outfield, he showed plus arm strength by making throws to the infield at velocities up to 89 mph;has athletic quick feet, a clean exchange, and soft hands. Fields the ball one hand, movements laterally were athletic. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.86.

Alejandro Covas: OF/RHP, (2023) Walsh Jesuit, OH. 6-foot, 165-pound. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 89 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a short stride. Had a level swing plane, and his bat speed was above average. Had some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid from the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 87 mph; shows consistent hands, a clean natural exchange, and quick choppy feet. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.75.

2/23/20 Position Player
Hit:Right handed hitter. Starts in a wide, balanced set up in the box. Loading sequence is simple and fluid, with a level bat path through the zone. Above average bat speed for young age.
Power:86 mph tee ev. Present gap abilities.
Offensive Projection:Top of the lineup
Field: Worked out as a 3B and OF. In both the INF and OF, he showcased smooth and efficient actions. Apparent athleticism, with above average ball skills for his young age.
Throw: 80 mph arm across the INF and 83 mph arm from the OF.
Defensive Projection: UTL

2/23/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Right handed pitcher. Smooth controlled delivery, with compact arm action from a ¾ arm slot.
Fastball: 74-78. Regular arm side action with more in the tank velocity wise.
Breaking Ball: 62-64 mph. Slurvish shape with signs of sharpness.
Changeup:66-67. Developing pitch. Was able to maintain consistent arm speed.

2/9/20 Position Player
Hit: Clean smooth simple compact load with a long bat path but quick hands. Level bat path that allows him to visit all sides of the field.
Power: Strong suit is line drives to all sides of field. Power will develop even more with time as he is a bat to follow at 85mph exit velo.
Offensive Projection: Top 4 of lineup.
Field: Fluid/clean footwork. Stays under control when approaching the ball keeping his athletic stance throughout his release.
Throw: 78 infield velocity and 82 outfield velocity throwing out of the ¾ arm slot.
Defensive Projection: LF/CF

Body Type:  5-foot-10, 145-pound thin and athletic frame.

Swing Mechanics:  Simple and compact load into lower half that engages his entire body.

Hit:  Backside approach with a level bat path that produces line drives to all fields.  True ball flight to the middle of the field.

Power:  Line drive guy with more to come as he develops, and adds size.

Offensive Projection:  TBD.
Field: In the outfield he approaches the ball with fluid footwork, playing under control throughout sequence. Ball skills are above average for class. Also worked out at third base. Feet are quick and he does a nice job of getting around the baseball. Can play from heels at times. Average ball skills presently.
Throw: 3/4 right-hander with developing arm strength.
Defensive Projection: CF/LF.

 

 

Body Type: 5-foot 10, 145-pound righty with slim but athletic, projectable frame and plenty of room to add.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Athleticism shows on the bump with a fluid delivery and a near ¾ slot. Low effort delivery with quick arm movement. Tall and fall delivery to the plate and a fall off to the first base side.
Fastball: 71-74. Stays in and around the zone and stays true through the zone with high  spin efficiency  sitting in the 100s. Locates in pitchers counts and mixes well with other offerings. 1900-2100 rpms.
Curveball: 58-62. Slow, gradual break in the zone at 10-4. The breaker offers solid change of pace and compliments the fastball in pitcher counts.
Pitchability: Average for his class.
