2/12/17
Amongst a group of very talented catchers, 2017 catcher Brock Mathis (Fairfield HS) was the top performer. Whether it was measurables or overall performance, the Louisville commit led the way amongst catchers. Mathis looks the part at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. During his defensive workout, he showed off impressive catch and throw skills, registering pop times of 1.90 to 1.97 and 79 mph arm strength to second base. At the plate, the right-hander put on a show in batting practice, showing advanced strength through contact. The ball explodes off his bat, especially to his pull side. He flashed as much raw power as anyone at the event. All three of his exit velocity swings produced 100 mph or higher, topping out at 102 mph.

6/16/14
6-foot-1, 185-pound good athletic frame with good projection. Catcher used a longer arm action with average transfer time in which I would like to see him shorten, and quicken up. Showed good arm strength certainly for his age reaching a top velocity of 76 mph on his throws and threw between 2.14-2.16 pop times to second base. Right-handed hitter starts with a balanced set up, good smoother hands back to shoulder trigger, showed ability to use both fields reaching a top exit velocity of 85 mph. Showed descent running times down to first for a catcher his age between a 4.26 and 4.40.

2/8/14
6-foot, 175-pound catching prospect with athletic frame. One of the top performing catchers at this particular event. Showed excellent feel for the position and good reactions in bullpen sessions. Behind the plate, he shows some quickness in his hands and good direction in his feet. Reached a top velocity of 69 mph with pop times between 2.11 to 2.22. Only a freshman, he has a strong foundation to improve upon for the future. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an open stance. Uses a leg kick, which creates some extra head movement in his swing. Good forward momentum that is aided by his lower half. Still needs to improve upper half as he has a tendency to get long his load. Still shows quickness in his hands (84 mph exit velocity off the tee) and some pull power.
