Gavin Shrum: SS/2B, (2022) Warren JFK, OH. 5-foot-9, 140-pound. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 85 mph. Began in a balanced tall stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a leg kick. Has a simple swing plane and efficient bat speed. Found multiple barrels during his round. Line drive approach. Athletic in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 79 mph; has soft hands, athletic feet, and a fluid exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.08.
Hit:Upright setup from the right side. Uses a leg kick timing trigger during fluid back load up top. Aggressive swinger with an efficient path. Much more jump than frame would indicate. Got into a few balls to pull side gap.
Power:Flashed gap abilities.
Offensive Projection:Top of lineup.
Field:Solid showing in the infield. Very fast, mechanically sound feet that allow him to play with consistent rhythm. Hands work well, offering above average ball skills for class.
Throw:Clean arm, high-3/4 release, respectable strength.
Defensive Projection:MIF.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 130-pound thin frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: A high leg kick with a tight and smooth arm action that flows. Some involvement of the lower half but lands slightly closed off.
Fastball: 72-75mph. Arm side movement that live low in the zone and on the corners.
Curveball: 58-61mph. Tight spin on a 11/5 plane with more depth over action.
Changeup: 65-66mph. Slows arm down slightly but has similar movement to fastball with good velocity difference that will keep hitters off balance.
Pitchability: Locates within the zone.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 130-pound thin frame.
Swing Mechanics: Righty bat with an efficient, fluid loading sequence.
Hit: Athletic, efficient stroke that plays to all fields. Shows a nice combination of burst and feel for the barrel. Uses all fields. Solid hit tool to follow. Very impressive round.
Power: Line drive guy with gap abilities. 80.1 mph off the bat in BP.
Offensive Projection: Top of the lineup.
Field: Smooth actions in the infield with good rhythm throughout. Ball skills are on par for his class.
Throw: Throws from over the top with a lot of intent. Made accurate throws.
Defensive Projection: Middle infield.
