A number of prospects improved their stock during the event and John Glenn’s Gavin Thompson was one of the more noticeable ones. Thompson has obviously spent time in the weight room which translated to his abilities in the box. Bat speed and strength both now grade out as above average tools and he has the ability to create natural backspin to both fields. The ball was flying off his bat to both gaps in BP. Also had a strong showing defensively at third base.
60-yard dash: 7.48
Infield Velocity: 84
Exit Velocity: 86

A right-handed hitter that starts in an athletic setup. Loading sequence is fluid and he creates solid energy with his lower half. Hands stay loose as they move to a strong launch position. Barrel maintains momentum prior to launch. Path is level with well above average natural tools. Consistently produced line drives in batting practice and showed the ability to drive the gaps. A solid defender at third base. Moves well outside his funnel and showed well above average glove skills. Plays with confidence and fluidity.
60-yard dash: 7.74
Infield Velocity: 79
Exit Velocity: 87

5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect. Took one of, if not the most impressive BP rounds of the day. Thompson creates energy through a series of well-timed, efficient movements in his loading sequence. Path is level with above average natural tools. An aggressive swinger that doesn’t get cheated in the box. The corner infielder routinely produced backspin on his line drives to both sides of the field. Projects as a third base type. Good job creating angles with his footwork. Creates momentum towards first base. Good rhythm to his actions with softness in his hands. Throws with some quickness through a ¾ slot. Top velocity of 80 mph across the infield.

60 Yard Dash: 7.97
Position Velocity: 80
Exit Velocity: 86
