Johnny Hill: OF/C, (2022) Columbus Academy, OH. 6-foot-2, 178-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Hill had a max exit velocity of 86 mph. Started in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Has above average bat speed, loose level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Up the middle approach. Capable in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 80 mph; showed a natural exchange, fluid feet, and consistent hands. Had a loose arm action and a high ¾ slot.
6/29/20
Hit:Athletic look in the box from the right side. Path is in/out of the zone quickly. A bit quicker than he is strong at this stage with the bat. All field abilities. Bat to follow as he continues to mature physically. Power:Line drive pop. With much more to come. Offensive Projection:Multiple Roles. Max BP Exit Velocity:88 mph Max BP Distance: 285 ft Field: Showed a solid skill set behind the dish. Above average catch/throw guy for class that showed a willingness to block and a more than capable receiving skill set. Throw: Ball jumps with mostly accurate deliveries. Defensive Projection: C.
6/25/19
Body Type: 6-foot, 135-pound thin frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: High leg kick with a slight hitch in the arm action in the cocked position. Arm action is on time and lands in line with the plate but could utilize lower half more. Falls slightly off glove side.
Fastball: 71-75mph. Apparent arm side movement on the offering. Shows potential to locate on both corners of the plate.
Changeup: 66-67mph. Changeup has slight arm side drift. Pitch was used sparingly but has ability to keep hitters off balance.
Pitchability: In the zone consistently with fastball. In the zone some of the time with changeup.
Additional Comments: Projectable frame that should see velocity increases as mass is added to frame.
Body Type: 6-foot, 135-pound thin frame.
Swing Mechanics: Open stance with a simple load that has minimal movement. Keeps hands loaded.
Hit: Uphill bat path with a pull side approach. Good feel in the box.
Power: Line drive guy. More to come as he develops and adds size.
Offensive Projection: TBD.
Field: Athletic stance with quick feet. Receiving and blocking skills are still developing. In the outfield he plays with quick feet too and through. looks to have above average ball skills, utilizing a nice, one-handed play through.
Throw: Above average arm that projects for more strength.
Defensive Projection: C/OF.
6/11/19
