2/09/20

2/9/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Athletic motions and a fluent delivery on the mound. High effort guy. Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. Works very well down the mound.
Fastball:  Above average spin rate guy who throws a heavy ball. Stuff looks harder than where he consistently sits.
Fastball Spin Rate: 2030-2100.
Curveball: Up and down 11/5 shape with a lot of vertical break. Change of plane should create a decent amount of swing and miss at the next level.
Curveball Spin Rate: 1800-1860.
Slider: Also incorporates a slider. Tunnels his slider very well. Offering comes out of a similar slot as other off speed pitches. 9/3 shape more horizontal movement.
Changeup: Shows some sink with above average feel. Solid fourth offering.

2/03/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 200-pound physical frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Much cleaned up since we saw him last. Gets down the mound well. Legitimate power arm in the ‘20 class.
Fastball: 86-87 mph. Ball jumps out of hand. Pitch is even heavier than velocity suggests.
Curveball: 80-81 mph. Power breaking ball with a ton of depth. Not a big breaker but more than enough action to miss barrels.
Changeup: 75-78 mph. Decent sell on the offering. Pitch is quality stuff wise with sink, run to it.
Pitchability: In the zone for regularly with all three.
Additional Comments: Must see for college coaches this season. Everything from delivery to stuff has gotten better since we saw him last. Stuff is for real.

2/03/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 200-pound physical frame.
Swing Mechanics: Athletic, yet simple loading sequence.
Hit: Balanced swing with obvious authoirty behind it. Level path with some feel for contact. Ball jumps.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity. Gap abilities with emerging power.
Offensive Projection: Middle of the Lineup.
Run: 7.95 60-yard dash.
Field: Worked out third base where he has the frame for the position. Fluid actions with solid ball skills. Looks comfortable over there.
Throw: After his performance on the mound it shouldn’t surprise you that arm plays as a big tool. 87 mph across the infield.
Defensive Projection: Corner Infield.
Additional Comments: More projectable on the mound but definitely something to look at as a position guys as well.

6/06/18

6-foot, 200-pound. Right-handed pitcher with an average build. Tone fall type delivery that requires regular effort. Uses a short arm action working through three-quarter slot. Fastball works downhill at 80 to 82 mph with a slight run to the warm side. Pairs the fastball with a near 12 to 6 curveball that has a tight/short break at 64 to 65 mph. Wilson also offered a playable cut fastball at 80 to 81 mph. Two- way prospect who shows raw power at the plate. A strong kid with run producer traits. Ball comes off well, generating gap pop. Has some hidden power in there as he adds loft to stroke.

60-yard dash: 7.86
Infield Velocity: 80
Exit Velocity: 89

2/11/18

6-foot, 205-pound physical frame. Features a low effort, fluid delivery. Arm action is compact and clean. Tosses an easy, 82-84 mph fastball that stays mostly true through the zone. Breaking ball is an above average offering with more depth than action. Spins it well with enough bite to be effective. Slider creates a different plane than the curveball, darting across the strike zone at 74-75 mph. Looks to be developing feel for a changeup that completes his secondary arsenal. A solid defender at third base. Knows when to sit back or attack the baseball. Creates angles with his feet and maintains rhythm through fielding. Glove plays as an above average tool for class and he showed the arm for the left side. A middle of the lineup type bat from the right side. Loading sequence is fluid, incorporating a leg kick timing trigger during his bat tip load. A strong kid who doesn’t get cheated with his hacks. Ball jumps off bat with more strength than bat speed at this stage. An obvious college prospect on the mound who could garner true two-way attention as bat speed catches up to strength with maturity.

60-yard dash: 8.15
Infield Velocity: 79
Exit Velocity: 90

6/21/17

A right-handed hitter that starts in a wider setup. Uses a short stride for timing and energy. Hands move back prior to launch. Strong kid with a flat path. Uses both fields and showed the ability to consistently produce backspin. Middle of the lineup guy with impressive opposite field pop. Behind the plate he starts in a higher crouch. Showed quickness to his feet and creates positive direction. Transfer skills are developing. On the mound the right-hander has an uptempo delivery that requires some effort. Arm action is long back with some whip to his arm. Works through a high-¾ slot with developing arm speed. Fastball has arm side run while coming in the zone at 75-77 mph. Breaking ball showed impressive depth at 66-68 mph. The pitch isn’t a big breaker but does enough to miss barrels. Also showed a changeup that looked more than playable. Crosses the zone at 72-73 mph with late downward action.

Wilson has a physical frame at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds and still time to continue to mature. On the mound uses an above average tempo with a delivery that requires some effort. Fastball sat 75-78 mph. As he continues to get physically stronger and becomes more aggressive with the lower half within his delivery you can expect a jump in velocity. Breaking ball has a near 12/6 shape with gradual bite at 59-63 mph. Changeup was between 68-70 mph and shows potential to be a very effective pitch. At the plate he starts open and uses a short stride to get back to even.  Stays fluid throughout swing sequence. Hands move back to launch during stride. A back leg hitter that takes an uphill path to the baseball. Would like to see him transfer weight into contact to level out path and get more use out of lower half. Has the tools to be a middle of the order guy. In the infield he uses fluid footwork. Creates angles with his feet and fields through efficiently. Moves well for frame. Threw across the diamond with 74 mph arm strength. In the infield, he starts in an athletic stance. Active feet. Would like to see him consistently play through the baseball. Shows some softness in his hands with ability to adjust to the bad hop. Some quickness to his transfer with top velocity of 74 mph across the infield. Behind the plate, he starts in an off balanced stance. Typically throws from a ¾ slot. Doesn’t consistently square up his front side, which causes his ball to run at times. Hands are quick in his transfer. Uses short arm action When he puts it all together, it works well. Pop times ranged between 2.06 to 2.21.
