Our staff has been eager to watch 2022 Kansai Sugimoto (Yavapai commit) take the mound in a live game and he showed feel for all of his pitches on Thursday night. He works with a clean, easy and repeatable delivery and seemed to be playing with hitters timing using his delivery at times. The fastball sat 85-88 T89 throughout his first several innings. Sugimoto always garners attention when steps on the mound and although it wasn’t a lights out performance on Thursday, overall it was a good showing for the right-hander. Curveball 74-75, changeup 83.
Sugimoto, 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, was impressive on the mound at OBJ Scout Day. Sugimoto was pounding the zone with his FB which sat 88-90 mph. It’s an effortless, fluid delivery from the RHP that looks easy, there is a lot more in the tank. CB worked off of his FB and the CH has fading action. He worked down in the zone and is definitely a very intriguing arm that screams projectability. The RHP is committed to Yavapai CC.
