Game Performance

Notes

Comments

2/13/22

Physical: Strong, durable 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame on the bump.

Pitching: RHP - The imposing right-hander started off the middle, left side of the rubber utilizing a methodical delivery that finds balance in the stack. Brock the hands with a slight stab in the back and got over the front side well at release from a H ¾ slot. Tough look at the plate at times, running a heavy FB in there at 78-80 mph. Mixed a developing 69-71 mph CB that landed for strikes (75% zone rate) and a 73-75 mph CH tunneled well off of the FB at similar arm-speed (fade).

6/30/21

Physical: Lengthy, high-waisted 6-foot, 160lb frame with room to add strength (wiry actions).

Pitching: RHP - Started from the stretch-only off the left side of the rubber, using a deep, stabbing takeaway down to the backside heel before dropping and driving down the slope with direction. Released from a fluid, lengthy OTT slot, creating some downward tilt on the FB at 77-79 mph (T2192rpms, 59% zone rate). Strike thrower that could land a lateral 66-68 mph SL (7.4 inches HM average via Trackman) on occasion, with the ability to add a third offering to a present two-pitch repertoire in the near future.

2/13/21

Physical: 6-foot, 158LBS. Lean, athletic frame. Projectable.

Pitching: Begins in the center of the rubber and squared to the plate. Hands begin at waist height. As the delivery works into a rocker step and leg lift the hands rise in correlation with the lift. On glove break the arm goes down and back into the arm circle. Slight stoppage of motion as the arm prepares to move forward. Post leg lift the lead leg works down and out, landing on the toe of the plant leg. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Three pitch mix, featuring a FB, SL, and CH.

1/14/18 Defensively, Young O would benefit from attacking and playing through ball on ground while following throws.

Offensively swing is initiated from neutral set up with stride to slightly open. Hands start low and stay low with back elbow being passive in load. Phillips was able to achieve leverage at contact on consistent basis. Physical maturation should allow marked short term improvement in all aspects of game.

On the mound, Young, developing pitcher works out of stretch exclusively from a mid 3/4 arm slot. FB sat 51-52 and change 50-51. Per above imminent strength gains should result in significant velocity spike and improved command.
