4/26/14 FB 83-85, touch 86, with late ASR. CB 71-72, has a feel for spin. Athletic, fielded position well (started a 1-6-3 DP). Mixed bag offensively on day, going 2-6 with 2 HR and 2 K. Right-handed hitter, high back elbow, low hands to launch, pulls off some, but flashes some bat speed and a pretty short path. Arm strength plays up in OF.
2/16/14 Smith has an athletic, fluid tempo to his high 3/4 delivery. He showed solid fastball command with arm side run at 82-84. Smith also displayed a feel for his 73 mph curveball that had tight 11/5 rotation. The junior's 73 mph changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed and showed some down action. With a year of inactivity due to ACL surgery, Smith appears primed for a breakout spring and a big rise in his stock.
2/15/14 Smith impressed as a two-way talent with a 4.09 home-to-1B time and fluid actions in the outfield. Smith displayed solid carry on throws of 88 mph to home plate. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound junior showed solid pop in his bat from the right side of the plate. Smith starts from a square stance and shows good balance throughout his swing. He barreled the baseball consistently with signs of gap power and a 94 mph bat exit velocity.
