4/11/18 Standing 6-foot-2 and already filling out, Kelchner's six inning, one run performance was key to his team securing the win. Throwing from a high ¾ slot, he touched as high as 91 MPH on the afternoon though he sat comfortably in the 87-88 MPH range. The curveball was 73-75 MPH throughout. The pitch can get slurvey at times but at its best shows 1/7 shape with sharp vertical bite. His changeup was the better of his two offspeed offerings, with feel for spotting the pitch and sequencing it. There is pitchability here, as Kelchner showed the ability to work backwards and forward, mixing in all of his pitches on his way to a 10 strikeout, three walk performance.
4/14/17 6-foot-2, 180-pound two-way prospect went 2-for-3 on a day that his team had just three hits. Turned around 88 mph down & in fastball for double down the line and laced a single to opposite field on an 80 mph changeup. Left-handed hitter has balanced approach at the plate, with minimal moving parts and very quick hands. Tossed a CG 2-hitter touching 89 mph in the 1st inning. Lefty sat 83-86 for majority of the game with natural cut to his fastball from a high 3/4 arm slot. Showed solid curveball with tight 1/7 rotation early at 72-74. Advanced changeup at 71-73 was used frequently in a 9 K, 2 BB outing.
5/31/15 Kelchner is an athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound two-way prospect. Currently listed as an OF/LHP, the lefty could very well see a switch in the order of those positions in the near future. On this date he sat 83-84 from an easy high 3/4 arm slot with some natural cut to his fastball. His curveball showed late biting action at 74 mph with 1/7 rotation.
