The former corner infielder showed promise with a quick transfer and accurate arm. His pop times of 1.98-2.10 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch already play provided the 5-foot-10, 200-pound uncommitted senior continues to develop his receiving and blocking skills. Smiley showcased a very short, compact swing from the left side of the plate with legitimate power to the pull side. The solidly built lefty hits from an open stance and creates a 90 mph bat exit velocity with a strong lower half and an aggressive hip turn.

2/15/14 The left-handed hitter showcased a very short, compact swing from an open stance. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound junior is solidly built and displayed his ability to drive pitches to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Smiley continues to show more fluidity defensively with a solid throwing arm (79 mph).
6/12/13 Smiley put on a display in his round of batting practice on day one, showcasing a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound left-handed hitter stayed short and inside the baseball driving pitch after pitch to and over the right field wall. Smiley showed adequate footwork and developing arm strength on throws of 76 mph across the diamond. He went 1-for-5 in game play over the course of the event.
2/23/13 Smiley is a talented left-handed hitting sophomore with a very short swing path and a solid 5-foot-10, 200-pound frame. He hits out of an open stance and uses an explosive lower half with quick hands to create barrel whip and an 81 mph bat exit velocity. Smiley had an excellent round of batting practice in which he consistently barreled the baseball using all fields. Defensively Smiley showcased a 79 mph arm across the infield and the ability to play through the baseball.
1/13/13 Smiley ran a 7.80 60-yard dash and threw 76 mph across the infield. He showcased an 81 mph bat exit velocity and a strong lower half. Smiley consistently squared baseballs and exhibited power potential to the pull side. His short swing path and solid build allow him to be short and explosive to the baseball creating significant barrel whip.
