PROCASE
6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Swung the bat aggressively at the workout. Tee exit velocity of 93 mph. The set up is even with his feet and has a small forward lean as he makes his way into starting his swing. The path is long and strong to contact. Should hit for power at the next level. There is loft in the swing. The receiving is average, needs to work on securing the catch. The arm has good strength to it, threw 80 mph down to second base during the workout. The transfer is clean, can improve his feet to lessen his time. Pop time of 1.97 with carry on the throws. Ran a 7.48 sixty on the laser at the event.
NY Procase (June 26, 2017)
11/7/15 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitter. Hits from a square stance with a medium-length stride that pulls his body forward some, but he stays behind his front side. Limited use of lower half leads to a long and strong (90-mph exit velocity) swing at the present time. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. Defensively, he exhibited solid receiving and blocking skills, along with a quick transfer and long, pitcher-like arm action (he threw a good bullpen later in the day) that generated arm strength of 77-mph from the crouch and pop times of 2.06-2.19.
11/7/15 6-foot-1, 185-pounder works out of a high three-quarter slot with long, clean arm action. Back shoulder dip can lead to him throwing a bit uphill and his fastball with occasional tail at 82-83 (touching 84-mph) flattening out. Delivery had a little more life to it and he appeared to maintain his elbow slot better than when we last saw him in June. Breaking ball (a 12/6 curveball at 69-72) was much improved, while he also featured a solid change-up with armside fade at 75-77.
6/17/15 Athletic-framed 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitter. Starts from a square stance in a slight squat and takes a short stride. Swing has some length and armbar, and was geared backside in game action, but did show some pullside pop (90-mph exit velo) in batting practice. Defensively, body stayed still when receiving and showed some arm strength (2.06-2.19 workout pop times) that would play up by shortening his footwork and release.
6/17/15 Primary position player with strong, medium frame (6-foot, 185-pounds). Pitched out of high three-quarter slot from slightly crossfire delivery. Threw strikes with fastball at 80-81 and slow, sweeping breaking ball with 10/4 action at 65-67.
2/28/15 Klapak stands 6-foot-0, 185-pounds with a next-level body. At the plate he swings from the left side, high level bat speed (exit velocity off a tee 90 mph). Setup is relaxed with some rhythm to his load. On the pitch he loads back and strides for timing. Short path to the ball, barrel stays mostly level through the contact zone, some extension through the ball, shoulder height finish. Behind the plate he shows an above average arm, just needs to improve his footwork and release. Throws were on target with a 2.05 pop time, throws from a high-3/4 slot at 76 mph. Extremely gifted young talent to keep an eye on.
