The 2015 PBR Pennsylvania Top Prospect Games took place on June 16-17 at Hank DeVincent Field on the campus of La Salle University. 88 prospects from around the state showcased their abilities in front of nearly 40 college coaches in attendance. Today is the second of six installments of player evaluations from the event.

Class of 2017

Bryson Allen, 2017, RHP, Central Dauphin

Medium build (6-foot-1, 165-pounds) with long levers. Pitched out of a three-quarter slot with long arm action and some hook in back. Three-pitch mix included fastball at 78-80, curveball with 11/5 action at 63-64, and change-up at 67-68. Has some projection in his frame and arm action.

Grant Breneman, 2017, RHP, Cedar Cliff
Primary position player with strong, medium frame (6-foot, 190-pounds). Pitched one inning out of a three-quarter slot with short arm swing. Fastball sat 77-78. Showed good feel for curveball with 11/5 action at 64-66 and change-up with some fade at 69-70.

Patrick Curran, 2017, RHP, Wyomissing Area
Lean, medium frame (5-foot-11, 150-pounds). Pitched to contact out of a high three-quarter slot with compact delivery.. Worked fast and threw strikes. Primarily utilized a fastball that sat 72-73 and a loopy curveball at 60-61.

Jack Dougherty, 2017, RHP, Shipley School
Undersized frame (5-foot-9, 160-pounds), but has some pitchability with very good mound presence. Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with a fastball at 79-80 that he kept out of the middle of the plate. Also utilized a solid 11/5 curveball at 70-72 and change-up at 69-70.

Mason Hambright, 2017, RHP, East Juniata
Undersized frame (5-foot-9, 160-pounds), but it doesn’t stop him from attacking the hitter. Pitched out of an over-the-top slot with some head jerk that inhibited his direction to the plate by pulling him toward the first base side. Fastball sat 80-83 with primary secondary pitch being a playable one-plane slider at 72-73.

Gavin Hinchliffe, 2017, RHP, Pottsville Area
Has some strength in his 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. Pitched out of an over-the-top slot with a stiff wrist. Had some life on a fastball that sat 85-87, touching 88, and was able to run it in on right-handed hitters. Breaking ball with 11/5 action at 76-78 had short, hard tilt with occasionally true slider action. Change-up at 74-75 was rarely-used third pitch.

Scott Leitholf, 2017, RHP, Northern York
Long and lanky XL-frame (6-foot-4, 165-pounds) with lots of room for strength gains. Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with solid landing at front foot strike. Located fastball well down/away vs right-handed hitters at 83-85. Has more in the tank when he learns to work over his front side instead of around it. Curveball had big 11/5 break at 66-68, while he is still developing feel for his change-up at 69-70.

Zachary Masalski, 2017, RHP, Phoenixville Area
Strong build (6-foot-2, 220-pounds). Pitched out of a three-quarter slot with overhead rocker. Fastball sat 79-80. Solid feel for curveball with three-quarter action at 69-71 and showed a drop-down slider from sidearm slot at 72-74. Slowed body down on change-up at 73-74 that was straight with occasional tumble.

Quinn McKenna, 2017, RHP, Spring-Ford
Primary position player with taller frame (6-foot-2, 195-pounds) and some present strength. Pitched one inning out of a high three-quarter slot and low elbow with push action. Two-pitch mix included fastball at 72-73 and slow, loopy curveball at 57-58.

Santino Nave', 2017, RHP, Roman Catholic

Athletic, medium frame (5-foot-10, 160-pounds). Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with clean arm action and fluid delivery. Fastball at 81-82 had some life to it. Change-up at 74-75 is a tad firm, but is thrown with very good armspeed. Solid curveball at 70-71 has a short 11/5 break.

Jon Pence, 2017, RHP, Blackhawk
Strong frame (6-foot-2, 200-pounds). Pitched out of a three-quarter slot with an easy delivery. Fastball at 83-84 showed late armside run. Change-up at 77-78 was firm with sink. Didn’t feature his slider at 70-73, but it showed some late action and depth.

Tommy Savastio, 2017, RHP, Cedar Cliff
Strong, medium frame (6-foot-1, 190-pounds). Pitched out of high three-quarter slot with high leg kick. Three-pitch mix included fastball at 75-77, slow curveball at 64-65 with 11/5 action, and change-up at 67-69.

Shane Souchuck, 2017, RHP, Conwell-Egan Catholic
Medium frame (6-foot, 200-pounds). Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot from an up-tempo, attacking delivery with some funk and recoil on finish. Improving fastball sat 79-81 and he occasionally dropped sidearm with it. Secondary offerings, including a curveball at 64-66 and change-up at 71-72, are also making progress.

Riley White, 2017, RHP, Nativity BVM
Solid, medium build (6-foot, 210-pounds). Pitched out of a low three-quarter arm slot with whippy, slinger arm action and slightly crossfire delivery. Fastball sat 77-79 and had some sink when it was thrown armside. Also featured an early-breaking slider at 70-71 with three-quarter action.

Class of 2018

Gabe Cicala, 2018, RHP, Lancaster Catholic

Undersized frame (5-foot-9, 145-pounds). Pitched entirely out of the stretch from a high three-quarter slot. In first outing, threw strikes with a three-pitch mix that included a fastball with a bit of tail at 77-78, and 11/5 curveball at 73-74 for which he has a good feel, and a firm change-up. In second outing, featured a solid cutter that ran away from barrels at 76-mph.

Zach Klapak, 2018, RHP, Delaware Valley
Primary position player with strong, medium frame (6-foot, 185-pounds). Pitched out of high three-quarter slot from slightly crossfire delivery. Threw strikes with fastball at 80-81 and slow, sweeping breaking ball with 10/4 action at 65-67.

Travis Perry, 2018, RHP, Rocky Grove
Tall, gangly frame with room to add strength (6-foot-3, 180-pounds). Pitched out of high three-quarter slot with some hook and wrap out of the glove. Fastball sat 79-81 and was complemented by a big-breaking 11/5 curveball at 65-67 and a change-up at 64-65.

Justin Wright, 2018, RHP, Hempfield Area
Medium-framed (6-foot-1, 170-pounds) primary position player. Pitched out of a three-quarter slot with low elbow. Hip coil over rubber coupled with short arm action appeared to create some deception. Fastball at 78-80 had late run or sink, while he also featured a curveball at 68-70 with three-quarter break. Exhibited quick feet on pickoff attempts.

Class of 2019

Joseph Messina, 2019, RHP, Neumann-Goretti

The only rising freshman from the event has lots of time to add inches and strength to his youthful 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot from a long, loose arm swing in which his knuckles practically scrape the rubber. Fastball with late run at 80-81 has a chance to be a heavy ball in the future. Also featured a big 11/5 curveball at 64-66 and showed good feel for his change-up at 72-75.
