6/13/17 - H-1B: 4.32, Position Velocity: 89, Exit Velocity: 91
5’11, 165-pound, RHH retained his position as one of the top outfielders in Tennessee’s 2019 class. Schultz is very athletic and utilizes quick-twitch muscles through everything he does. At the plate, he stays very loose and uses a leg kick to free up his lower half at the beginning of the swing. Schultz’s swing plane flattens out through contact and produces a line drive approach. He has the ability to hit the ball to all fields, but really seems to pepper the left-center gap in BP. Schultz is one of the best defensive outfielders around and plays through the ball with a ton of confidence and athleticism. His arm strength is a separator, as his throws have a ton of carry and get to their target in a hurry. In game play, Schultz finished 2-5 and reached by an error on a hard-hit ball to shortstop.
2/12/2017 - 60 Time: 6.88, Position Velocity: OF-88, Exit Velocity: 86
5-foot-11, 165-pound, RHH hits from the same narrow and slightly open stance we’ve seen from him in the past, has added a smooth and abbreviated leg kick and stride with his movement back of his hands to get loaded, lower half fires his back hip through with some aggressiveness and keeps him strong with its width, bat path begins a little steep, but can get behind the ball and drive through it with some lift, drove some balls to deep left field. Defensively, showed sure hands and athletic footwork in the outfield, played through the ball with confidence and led a clean exchange into a long and loose arm action through a near over-the-top slot, strong arm produced firm and accurate throws with a lot of life. Continues to impress.
10/16/16 - Home-1st: 4.61, Position Velocity: OF - 84, Exit Velocity: 87
5-foot-11, 160-pound, RHH continues to be consistent with a narrower stance and using a long stride and a slight but smooth push back of his hands to get loaded, lower half works through that long stride and gets his backside through the zone, sometimes over-rotates, hands get back and are able to comes through on a fairly flat plane, showed a consistent line drive approach with some gap power toward the end of his round. Defensively, plays through the ball aggressively and confidently in the outfield, clean and athletic exchange leads to a loose and quick arm action through a high ¾ to over-the-top slot, arm was a little tired, but still showed great carry. Schultz allied a single and drove in 2 runs in game play.
10/16/16 - Max FB: 81, FB: 79-81, CB: 61-62,
5-foot-11, 160-pound, RHP works at a faster pace with confidence and purpose on the mound, didn’t have the best stuff we’ve seen him with but was still able to compete and be successful, gets his entire body engaged through his delivery and his arm can get very quick, maintains a high ¾ arm slot that creeps closer to over-the-top at times. Fastball showed some very slight run while his curveball had a little bite with his typical 11/5 shape. Schultz threw 2 scoreless innings and recorded a strikeout, command wasn’t as sharp as normal, but showed the competitiveness to scrap it out.
9/25/16 - 60 Time: 7.31, Position Velocity: OF-88, Exit Velocity: 87
6-foot-0, 160-pound, RHH hit from an even and narrower stance than we’ve seen from him in previous events, uses a long stride and a slight but smooth push back of his hands to get loaded, lower half is initialized by that long stride and fires his backside through well, sometimes over-rotates, hands get back and are able to comes through on a fairly flat plane, had a really good round of BP with a display of some power toward the left-center gap. Defensively, plays through the ball aggressively and confidently in the outfield, clean and athletic exchange leads to a loose and quick arm action through a high ¾ to over-the-top slot, impressive arm strength with good life.
9/25/16 - Max FB: 82, FB: 79-82, CB: 66-69, CH: 73-74,
6-foot-0, 160-pound, RHP showed a lot of the same rhythm and athleticism we have seen from him in previous events, stays under control but leads his initial quietness into a release with effort and intent, higher leg lift pushes up his hands and encourages a slight shoulder tilt, uses that angle to his advantage, long and quick arm action comes through a high ¾ slot, finishes mostly balanced with an occasional and slight fall toward 1B. Fastball stayed mostly straight but was firm, curveball showed 11/5 shape through the zone, changeup had slight fade at the plate.
7/27/16 - Home-1st: 4.63, Position Velocity: 88, Exit Velocity: 80
5-foot-10, 160-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance and stands fairly tall with some pre-pitch bat waggle to stay loose, uses a very abbreviated leg kick and stride and a subtle push back of his hands to get loaded, lower half gets through very well and keeps him balanced throughout the swing, bat path is mostly flat through the zone with some steepness to it, hit some very hard line drives to LF and LCF in BP and put together some good at-bats in game play. Defensively, uses his athleticism to get behind the ball and attack through it with fluidity and confidence, used good hands and footwork to produce a smooth transfer and a loose arm action through a high ¾ slot that showed accuracy with a lot of arm strength.
7/27/16 - Max FB: 83, FB: 79-83, CB: 66-68, CH: 73-74,
5-foot-10, 160-pound, RHP uses a very up-tempo routine and delivery to keep an upbeat feel on the mound, uses good rhythm and pace in his motion and stays very much in line throughout, finishes balanced with an occasional recoil against his front leg, quick arm comes through a high ¾ arm slot very efficiently and with some good zip. Fastball was very similar to what he showed at the Top Prospect Games with some slight run and seemingly heavy through the zone, curveball was hardly thrown throughout this outing, changeup showed good run and fade away from lefties, had 2 K’s in his two innings. Schultz should continue to develop into an interesting prospect in the 2019 class.
6/15/16 - 60 Time: 7.05, Position Velocity: OF-87, Exit Velocity: 81
5'10, 150-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance and begins with his back elbow down, uses a long stride and a push back of his hands to get loaded, back elbow stays down and barrel lays back a little bit. Lower half fires as soon as his stride foot hits and give him some good separation, can tend to come forward a little too much at times, back elbow positioning makes it hard to get the barrel down on the plane of the pitch and causes him to come at balls low in the zone at a pretty steep angle, did get through balls up in the zone and hit some hard line drives up the middle, stayed balanced on his better swings. Defensively, showed some athleticism and some very good arm strength, sure hands and good footwork allowed him to play through the ball well, fielded the ball pretty far outside his body which made for a longer exchange, long and loose arm action through an over-the-top slot produced some very strong throws with accuracy and a lot of life.
6/15/16 - Max FB: 82, FB: 77-81, CB: 60-63, CH: 68,
5'10, 150-pound, RHP works pretty quickly on the mound and showed some good tempo throughout his outing, begins with a rocker step forward and brings his front leg up rather quickly, hands are lowered during the rocker step and raised back up with his leg, gathers at the top before coming home hard with a short arm action through a high ¾ release point, could get into his back leg for a little more leverage, strides directly toward the plate and only falls off slightly to the 1B side. Fastball showed some life with slight run and seemed heavy coming through the zone, curveball showed 11/5 action and had a lot of break. Don’t be surprised to see Schultz continue to add velo.
1/31/16 - Home-1st: 4.80, Position Velocity: OF-84, Exit Velocity: 78
5-foot-10, 150-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, mid-length stride, maintains good balance through contact, uses all fields well, gets through the zone consistently with quick hands, good bat speed for age, line drive gap to gap approach, impressed in BP. Shows athletic defensive actions and moves well, long high-3/4 release, loose and athletic arm, premium arm strength for age. Schultz is a potential high-level young player to watch closely.
Max FB: 81, FB: 79-80, CB: 65-67, CH: 70-72
As a pitcher, shows well above average velocity for age, arm works through a high-3/4 slot with some quickness and regular effort, fastball is thrown for strikes and shows solid arm-side run, showed better feel for his curveball as he progressed through his bullpen session, curveball shows 12/6 action, has very good feel for a solid changeup with late run and sink. Schultz is a potential high-level Class of 2019 prospect who will only get better as he adds to his slender frame.
