It is rare when 8th graders are in our Preseason ID events, but Emerson isn’t your typical 8th grader. He plays the game with a maturity and ease that is beyond his years. His left handed stroke generates easy power as he backspun balls all over the field and showed the ability to drive the ball with authority to the opposite field. In the field, he was very fundamentally sound and looked like a future P5 shortstop. One of the more impressive things Emerson did was not on the field but off. He had the highest Visual Edge score at the event as the youngest participant. While we haven’t done 2026 rankings yet, Emerson will be in the running for the top spot.
