2022 MLB Draft League: Athletic lefty that oozes with projection and dominated JUCO ball this past spring by posting a gaudy 160 K's to 17 BB. Starter traits with plus command of all pitches complete with an above-average curveball and changeup.
3/03/22
Tall, strong pitcher's body at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds. The ball comes out of hand quickly with smooth delivery, getting on hitters quickly. He sits 90-93 mph with good late life and sink, commanding his heater to both sides of the plate with movement. Knows how to use his FB to get outs and set up his other pitches: an 80-82 slider with sharp, late break and hard diving action, and a deceptive 80-81 changeup that he sells with good arm speed. Drake has a good feel for the latter, which can flash plus. In general, Drake just knows how to keep hitters off-balance. As a big lefty with the makings of three average-or-better pitches, Drake profiles as a backend starter at the next level.
10/11/17
Drake showed plus pitchability with his three-pitch mix. The left-hander works from a high-¾ slot with his fastball ranging from 80-82 mph, topping out at 83. His curveball has sharp 1/7 shape with good depth at 69-70 mph. Very good feel for his changeup at 76-77 mph with arm side fade and depth.
6/14/17
Six-foot-3, 190-pound, long-limbed, projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength and velocity. The left-hander works from a ¾ slot with a medium arm stroke and easy effort. Drop and drive delivery with smooth rhythm, level shoulders and an athletic finish. Varies in landing open vs. closed depending on which side of the plate his throwing to. His fastball may only be 79-81 mph and shows slight run with more velocity to come in the future. His slider has slurve type aciton with 11-5 shape, and gradual break at 67-69 mph. He threw one sharp cutter at 72 mph. His changeup was 69 mph.
