The top uncommitted MIF in the state, features a well proportioned lean athletic build with a 5-11 180 frame that can add another 10 lbs and with that 10, his gap power should translate to added pull side HR power, as he has the leverage in the swing to lift and carry the baseball out of the park. The hand and bat speed maxes of 20.4 and 80.5 are in place to hit good pitching. His bat speed avg of 71.4 is MLB/D1 caliber metrics. The on plane efficiency max of 93 and avg of 74 suggests a flatter stroke with the necessary uphill angle to match the plane of various pitch types. The production as a junior, 17 extra base hits and a .383 BA, while producing more BB 13 vs SO 6, gives him every opportunity to let the projections in the power department to play as he continues to fill out and get stronger. A runner at 6.84/60, is his best laser timed mark at the West Coast Games and a 6.6/60 at a D1 college prospect camp showing, lend to legging out extra base hits as his junior #’s suggest. The glove plays at all 3 athletic INF spots and is the Orem Tigers everyday SS, after holding down 2B as a sophomore. Played both MIF spots at the West Coast Games and registered a strong 85 mph across the diamond with an open glove and low to the ground presentation as he funnels well and shows a loose wrist at contact with the ball and glove. What we have here is a solid to above avg performer as an underclassman that is athletic and can swing the bat, while showing foot speed and versatility to defend on the dirt. A high level JC/D2 caliber profile, that if the body shows added strength and over the fence power come spring, we may have more than that moving forward.
7/20/23
Lean wiry skinny build w/need for added weight and size, yet shows the movement patterns necessary to play at the next level. Type of frame and build to proj strength and added size with a dedication to the gym and where that can take his game. From an offensive standpoint, features a conventional bend at the knees, even prop stance with his bat held high and the bat in a wrapped position. As he takes his foot lift and weight transfer from back to front, he coils the bat head a bit, yet gets his hands started to drive inside and through the baseball w/a direct line of attack and impacts the baseball w/a compact short stroke and finds the barrel for an EV max of 94.7, which is good for his age and development. With a barrel adjustment at launch, he will be able to get to velocity as he continues to add weight and size to his frame. Had a solid 2023 season, leading state tournament bound Orem in hitting at .434 in 66 late season AB’s, as he took over a MIF spot and seized the opportunity and was a driving offensive force in turning the Tigers season around with a late season charge in winning 16 of their last 19 game and at one point 15 out of 16. Defensively shows educated feet and cones and gets the baseball with soft hands and a quick transfer from ball to hand and gets rid of the ball w/o any wasted extra steps. The arm is below avg now, yet at 16 yrs old, he has time and strength development on his side to increase his arm strength to avg and playable. 2B type profile that should only continue to get better as he controls the K zone and walked 11 times vs only 6 K’s. A high contact bat that puts the ball in play, which lends to promise a high batting avg now and in the future. Keep an eye on this kid as he continues to develop. Next level talent and athleticism.
