Smallwood is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some strength present. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Straight on line delivery, shoulders level and on line, lands on line, fall of finish with some recoil. Fastball was 80-82, touching 84, pitch showed a bit of late armside run and he generates some downward angle with it. Curveball was 72-74 with good armspeed and gradual 11/5 break, showed some shape and should sharpen as he develops. Change-up was 69-72 with some armspeed and fade. Showed a little cut/slider thing was 78 with a bit of late 10/4 life to it. Showed control of all four pitches and the ability to move them around the strike zone and use them in any count. Also did a good job of staying focused and battling after allowing four runs to the first four hitters of the game and shutting down Braddock's offense afterward. Shows some pitchability and feel for changing speeds.
