Athletic makeup for the ODU commit and stands around 6-foot-1 with lean proportional strength. Jones got hit in his first at bat of the day then went on to barrel uo a few more balls. Probably his hardest hit ball of the day was a scorcher right at the second baseman in his second at bat. Head stays behind at contact and does a nice job staying balanced throughout the swing. Contact driven right now, but Jones definitely has teh capability to flash some power every once in a while. Rangy defender in the outfield with above average arm strength.
VA/DC Committed Combine
Jones is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a good approach working middle of the field with some extra-base power present to pull side and the chance to add more, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, gets behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, long arm action, position velocity was 85. Ran a 6.89 60 yard dash.
Preseason All-State I
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 6-foot-1, 165-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Hits from a taller, slightly open set up. Short rock back load with leg lift stride to square. Hands are direct to the ball and quick. Nice barrel control and rhythm in swing. Shows some quick twitch and explosiveness. Swung the bat well during BP with great feel for the barrel to make loud contact.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive tendencies at the plate. Shows ability to drive to all parts of the field. Should hit for average well with short swing and quickness in hands. Strong barrel.
Arm: RH. OF 84 mph. Shorter quick arm action. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Throws have average carry and are accurate.
Defense: Active feet, working thru the ball well. Gains momentum to the infield with quick exchange. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Like the athleticism.
Run: 4.25 runner Home-to-first time
