4/15/23

Jones has been on a tear as of late. The Hokies’ right fielder is hitting over .400 in the last few weeks, including going 5-for-11 against the Yellow Jackets. The left handed 6-foot-2, 190-pound leadoff hitter started the day off with a double to the right center field fence. He would single in his third at bat and then turn out another double, this one down the right field line in the sixth inning. He sets up with an open stance, smaller lift to stride, and gets back on line. His swing has some length to it and a little pull side tendency. Ran a 4.6 on the turn on his double. Projects as a corner outfielder in pro ball with some raw power in the bat.

3/15/17

Athletic projectable pitchers frame with strong lower half and developing upper body. Compact delivery with balance throughout. Loose athletic arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot. Consistent lower half, can generate velo with easy effort. Clean finish square to the plate with occasional fall off to third base side. Physically advanced for his age and more growing to do. Fastball showed late life on the pitch with run and sink. Breaking ball has short 1/7 action on the pitch with fastball arm speed.

5/16/16

Jones is a lanky lefty that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. He has a quick arm, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed as he strides to a closed landing with a fall off. His fastball had late run, sitting 82-83 and touching 84.

+2019 LHP Carson Jones (Steward HS, VA), a Virginia commit, struggled a bit with command during his three innings of work, but his long, loose arm could not be ignored.  Jones sat 84-87 mph throughout the outing with a smooth motion delivering from a low ¾ arm slot.  The left-hander has long limbs, and is still maturing physically, so there will almost assuredly be more velocity on the way.
