Richards looked like his normal self on the day. Athletic frame, throwing from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Normal effort to his delivery. His fastball was 77-80 on the day. His Curveball was 67-68 and change-up 70-72. He clearly didn't have his best stuff on the day and was fighting his command and a tough strike zone. He did a good job of battling and finding ways to get hitters out and keep his team in the game, allowing 2 runs, at least one unearned, in almost five innings of work. We have seen Richards pitch when he has his best stuff and his pitchability is off the charts. On this day he didn't have his best stuff and showed he can compete and still deliver a solid outing when that happens.

His changeup had fade with good armspeed, running 70. His curveball had gradual 1/7 action, running 62-64, and showed the potential to be good as he tightens it up. Richards showed a lot of mental toughness and competitiveness, not getting phased by anything that went on around him and constantly attacking a very good lineup. He showed no fear of going inside with his fastball.
10.12.15 Richards is a lanky lefty who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action and a quick arm that works. His shoulders are closed and uphill and he creates good angle and deception with a slightly closed landing. Richards’ fastball ran 72-73 and he hides it well. His breaking ball has sharp 1/7 action and ran 62. The pitch has a lot of potential as he gets stronger and tightens the spin on it. His changeup is straight and has good armspeed, running 66. He pounds the zone and is a heck of a competitor, shutting down a good Stars White team in the Columbus Day Classic Championship Game. In the outfield, he gets good reads on the ball and has a strong arm.
