Johnson impressed our staff recently at a PBT event in Mauston where he tossed a complete game allowing two hits. On Tuesday, Johnson showed a three-pitch mix with a mid-80s fastball that reached 86.3 mph with life out of the hand and flashed feel to locate throughout the zone. Both of the offspeed pitches play with go-to pitch upside, the first is a upper-60s curveball that flashed sharp and tight breaking action with some feel to locate around the zone. Showcasing a long-levered 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame, Johnson had a quality start in Sunday’s bracket play game for Eau Claire A’s Red. He tossed seven strong innings only allowing one run off two hits, securing six strikeouts. His fastball had arm-side run and produced weak ground balls sitting 83-86 mph and maintaining velocity into his final inning of work. His curveball had 11/5 action and ranged from 64-67 mph. Mechanically, he presented a rhythmic, drop and drive delivery with a whippy arm action. Overall, the right-hander appears to be a definite uncommitted arm to follow.
