Wisconsin-Parkside commit. Berger had standout performances on both sides of the ball for Milwaukee King this past week. At the plate he went 5-for-13 with a 3-for-4 game against Milwaukee Riverside where he also hit a home run. Later in the week against Milwaukee Reagan he pitched a no-hitter, walking one batter and striking out 14 over seven innings.
Berger is a raw 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect with big potential. On a fastball that sits 85-87 mph, Berger generates well over 2,220 rpm of spin on average, and it runs and carries through the zone effectively. He flashes a sharp curveball as well, 70-75 mph, that also spins at a high rate. His size and room for development create significant untapped potential that’s worth monitoring.
Positional ProfileRHP/OF
Body: 6-3, 195-pounds. High waisted. Room to fill out.
Delivery: Stretch only. Tall/fall delivery. Strides slightly closed. Minimal effort.
Arm Action: RH. Quick high 3/4 arm action.
FB: T87.4, 84-87 mph. Thrown downhill with run and carry through the zone. T2340, 2275 average rpm.
CB: 71-73 mph. Flashed sharp 11/5 action for strikes. T2340, 2262 average rpm.
Berger is a high-waisted 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete with plenty of room to add strength to his frame, particularly in his long-limbed lower half. He gradually increased his fastball velocity as his ‘pen went on, starting at 83 mph and pumping his last two heaters in at 86.6 and 86.8 mph, respectively. Berger’s downhill operation is fairly controlled and low-effort, suggesting more velocity is left to come in the near future. He spun an above-average breaking ball with occasional sharp action off a 12/6 plane at 66-70 mph, averaging 2,234 RPM. Still uncommitted, Berger is certainly a follow name in Wisconsin’s junior class.
During the first day of our PBR at The Rock 16u Championships, we got another look at Berger on the mound. The long-limbed right-hander impressed again, working in relief. Berger got the ball in the seventh, sitting 82-85 mph with his fastball, touching 86 mph for the save.
During the final day of our PBR Badger State Battle, Berger threw five complete innings, striking out five without giving up an earned run. He reached an 83 mph high with his fastball, sitting in the 80-82 mph range. He helped his own cause at the plate as well, leading the Cardinal offense with two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.
Berger showed well in their game against Thundercats at our PBR Badger State Battle. The 5-foot-8, 145-pounds right handed hitter went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Berger hits from a balance stance with a smooth load into a short stride. Berger started his day with a short level swing, hitting the ball to the right center gap for a one out double.
