The Florida Preseason All-State has quickly become the premier Preseason event in the state of Florida. Over the first two years there have been over 100 committed players in attendance and counting. This event is held for the top 2019s-2022s throughout the state to kick off the Prep Baseball Report's spring high school baseball coverage.

We will begin to spotlight each and every player in attendance. Today, we look at C Declan McDermott (Viera, 2020). The uncommitted catcher is currently ranked No. 134 in Florida.

Scouting Report

07/14/18- Uncommitted, listed at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, he has a strong lower half and has filled out over the last year. Defensively, he moves well behind the plate. Shows a feel to block and receive, the arm will need to improve some, but there are solid defensive actions. The bat continues to play up. He has a strong, balanced lower half and really clears the back side well. The swing is compact and he has a lot of barrel awareness. Translated to game play where he drove a triple to left-center field. The bat continues to stand out and will be a follow as he continues to mature and add strength.

1/27/18- Uncommitted, Currently stands at 5-foot-9, 161 pounds with a solid frame. Offensively, he starts from a balanced setup looking to drive the ball with a level path through the zone. Showed a level path through the zone with the ability to create hard contact and gap-to-gap potential. Registered an 89 mph exit velocity in the cage. Behind the plate the hands work and receives the ball out in front with his throws to the bag topping out at 68 mph. Clocked in at 7.55 for his 60 yard dash time.

09/30/17- 5-foot-9, 155 pound catcher. Defensively, he has some stiffness in his setup, but the hands work. He shows simple footwork, topped out at 64 mph, but has a clean, quick transfer with pop times ranging from 2.1-2.2 pop times. Offensively, the right handed hitter starts with the bat on his shoulder, gets quality separation, but tends to drop his hands in the load. There is some rotation in the swing, but it is level through the zone. Ran a 7.21 60 yard dash and shows some athleticism and an exit velocity of 82 mph.
