Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

Thanksgiving is behind us and we head into the Winter season of 2020. That means the 2021 Spring is just around the corner. Our National Office updated their Class of 2021 Rankings last week, and I wrote a piece on some of the biggest risers from the state of Florida. If you missed that article, CLICK HERE to check it out.

Today, we update our Florida Class of 2021 Rankings. This will be the last update until the Spring season and we can’t wait to watch these 2021’s in their senior seasons. Lots of players stood out during the Fall, earning themselves a boost in the rankings. These rankings lead up to the 2021 PBR Florida Preseason Classic, which will feature some of the top 2021 draft prospects in the state, most of which will be featured fairly high in these rankings.

The top of the class remains the same as RHP Andy Painter (Calvary Christian Academy, Florida) continues to be the talk of the class. OF/LHP Drew Gray (IMG Academy, Arkansas) remains at No. 2 as he looks to make an impression on the Florida scouts in his first year at IMG. RHP Irving Carter (Calvary Christian Academy, Miami) remains at No. 3 in the state, making for a very dangerous Calvary team down in Fort Lauderdale this Spring. At No. 4 remains C/RHP Jackson Baumeister (Bolles, Florida State). Baumeister continues to showcase his true two-way talent at a very high level.

At No. 5 is where things change. OF
Jay Allen (John Carroll, Florida) makes the jump into the top 5. Allen is a tremendous two-sport athlete, with the range and athleticism to stick in center long term. An above average hitter with a chance to have 5 above average tools at the next level.

At No. 6 is another riser in OF James Wood (IMG Academy, Mississippi St.) Wood is 6-foot-6, 230 pounds and continues to add strength to his frame. Big power from the left side with tons of athleticism for that XL frame. Wood is part of a stacked IMG team that will have a ton of eyes on them come this spring.

At No. 8 in this update is LHP
Devin Futrell (American Heritage Plantation, Vanderbilt). The 6-foot-5 southpaw moves up 8 spots and has seen his velo jump back up into the upper 80’s this fall with a wipeout slider to pair. OF Ty Evans (Lakeland Christian, Florida) has become one of the most physical hitters in the class and has jumped up to No. 11. One of the biggest risers throughout the last year is SS/3B Gavin Conticello (Stoneman Douglas, USF), and he is now up to No. 12.

Other Notable Risers

SS Alex Ulloa (Calvary Christian Academy, Oklahoma St.) jumps up to No. 14. Continues to show above average pop to all fields. Rangy middle infielder with the arm to stick at short.

RHP Jose Pena (Tampa Prep, FIU) jumps up to No. 18. Physical right-hander that is uber competitive on the hill. Fastball sits 90-94 with above average secondary stuff.

C Satchell Norman (Sarasota, Florida State) jumps to No. 21 in the state. Physical catcher that moves well and is quick behind the plate. Above average offensive tools with a chance to be a plus hitter.

SS Edwin Arroyo (Central Pointe Christian, Florida State) makes his debut on the Florida Rankings at No. 25. The switch hitting shortstop heads to Central Pointe for his senior season coming from Puerto Rico.

LHP Mason Albright (IMG Academy, Virginia Tech) comes in at No. 26 in the state. Albright makes the move over to IMG from Maryland. The southpaw sits in the low to mid 90’s with the fastball.

OF Victor Rodriguez (Montverde Academy, FIU) makes the jump up to No. 27 in the state. Physical 6-foot-5, 205 pound outfielder with above average power to all fields and a plus arm from the outfielder.
