Cape Cod: A high-profile recruit last year, Baumeister got his feet wet with 27.1 innings as a freshman, posting a 5.60 ERA. He'll be a sophomore draft-eligible for the 2023 draft. With a powerful frame at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Baumeister mixed five pitches in our look: a lively two-seamer at 90-92 and a four-seamer up to 94; an average to better 74-76 curveball with good shape; an average fading changeup at 80-84, which became his best pitch in his last two innings of a four inning start; and an occasional 82-83 mph slider as a chase pitch. His control comes and goes as he struggles to repeat his release point, but it's loose and easy from a three-quarters slot. He gets much better results when he works up/down with his fastball and curvebal or changeup. He struggles when he tries to attack and misses with his lively two-seamer (14-16 inches of horizontal break), causing him to fall behind in the count, or just simply loses the hitter to the free pass. On this look, Baumiester seemed to be more of a pitchability righthander than a power starting pitcher. He looked more like a third-to-fifth-round prospect than a top-two rounder.
2/21/22
A top impact freshman Jackson Baumeister tossed bullets in his brief, one-inning appearance in relief of Messick on Friday night. Overpowering hitters with his mid-90s heat, he touched 96 mph during his 20 pitch inning. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder also showed a nasty, upper-70s curveball, striking out two of the four batters he faced.
2/14/19
Florida State recruit. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds he might not only be one of the more physically impressive underclassmen in attendance, he was overall one of the most talented. A true two way player, he stands out behind the plate where is is athletic and comfortable, with flexibility and a good setup despite the large frame. Transfer is clean, arm is strong, feet work and pop times ranged from 1.94-2.11. Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses the large frame efficiently with a simple swing, driving balls from gap-to-gap. He has bat to ball skills and power with overall high upside. On the mound, he used his strong lower half well, with an efficient delivery, above average curveball and fastball up to 91 mph. Overall, a true two-way talent with very advanced skillset.
10/20/18
Florida State commit. Closed out 5 Star National’s win over the Royals Scout Team with six strikeouts in three innings. He allowed one unearned run on one hit. He was up to 91, but pitched mostly in the high 80s with plus life to his fastball.
3/30/18
Florida State recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds with a tall, strong frame. Impressed during some relief work late in the game where he featured a fastball with run that mostly 86-87 mph, touching 89 along with a 71-72 mph curveball that displayed depth, throwing it for strikes. Ball jumps on hitters. Gets some extension out in front and works downhill. Young, talented arm with upside that will continue to be a high follow for his class as he continues to mature.
