PDQ Player of the Week: Ryan Pettys & Josiah Miller

PBR Florida Staff

The Week 11 PDQ Player of the Week Powered by PBR is awarded to two players for their outstanding performances in the district tournaments last week. This is the second time two players have been honored with this award (Week 8 - Blake Wright & Daniel Vassallo).

The Week 11 PDQ Pitcher of the Week is LHP Ryan Pettys (Mosley, 2019; Florida State). Pettys has long been nominated for this award, frequently finding himself in our weekly Diamond Notes. This week though, he takes the cake. In the 6A District 2 Championship against Wakulla, Pettys tossed a no-hitter, striking out 11 batters as the Dolphins took the game 10-0.

The Week 11 PDQ Hitter of the Week is INF Josiah Miller (North Florida Christian, 2019; Florida State). Miller is another player who has been nominated for this award frequently and seen his name appear in our Diamond notes. Miller now joins teammate Brandon Walker as a recipient of this award after he had a monster week at the plate. In route to the 3A District 1 Championship, Miller went 4-for-6 with four home runs, eight RBI, one walk and five runs scored.

Scouting Report

10/12/18 - Florida State commit. 6-foot-2, 165-pound, left-handed pitcher, lean, muscular frame. Long, loose arm action, ¾ slot, repeatable drop and drive delivery. Fastball sat 87-90, showed good command of. Changeup, located low in the zone, sinking action, 81 mph. Curveball, 2/8 shape, depth, late bite, 72-76. Good three-pitch feel, struck out at least one batter with each pitch.

10/15/17- Florida State recruit. Fastball sat 84-86 mph, touching 87 along with a 71-72 mph curveball and a 77-78 mph changeup. Struck out two in his two innings on the mound. One of the few 2019s, he is wiry and projects well. The arm action is clean and mechanically fairly sound. Everything will uptick with added strength.

Scouting Report

10/12/18 - Florida State commit. 6-foot, 185-pound, switch-hitting infielder. Athletic frame with lean strength. Is a solid defender who works under control and shows a feel for the middle. Most likely is a second baseman in college and could be an above average defender there. Offensively, he appears more comfortable left-handed, where he has his only hit and works level through the zone. He is a bit more rotational right-handed, but there is present bat speed and strength.

10/11/17- FSU commit. The switch hitting middle infielder has always had a ton of tools and extremely physical. He continues to get bigger and stronger and has started to put the tools together from both sides of the plate. He has become consistently shorter through the zone and found the barrel on a regular basis. There is power potential from both sides of the plate and has a very high ceiling. Defensively he showing extremely well at third and the bat is coming along to stick on the corner.

03/25/17- Committed to Florida State University.
