On Saturday December 8^th, we hosted the Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Roundtripper Sports Academy in Westfield, IN. Below are a few quick reactions from the event.

COMMITTED PROSPECTS

+The overall top prospect at the event was 2019 SS Tommy Benson (IMG, FL). Benson, formerly a 2018 grad from Chesterton HS, reclassified and is now down at IMG in Florida. At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds Benson is athletic with a strong tool set. The switch hitter stood out during his BP rounds, specifically from the right side. He hits from an open, balance setup showing fluid rhythm. Showcased plus bat speed from a longer bat path that produced tons of juice and power potential. He registered a top exit velocity of 103 mph off the tee. As a defender, Benson displayed above average glove work with quick, fluid feet and a clean exchange. He possesses plenty of arm strength with carry to stay on the left side of the diamond (92 mph). Top 60 time of 6.98. Benson recently committed to North Alabama.

+2019 SS Nolan Tucker (Hanover Central HS) showed well in all facets of his game. The left-handed hitter hits out of a balanced, athletic setup with an explosive lower half. He showed bat speed from a shorter path that regularly got to extension. Tucker consistently found the barrel during his BP round. High contact type hitter with a lot of feel in the box. Registered a high exit velocity of 91 mph off the tee. Tucker is an above average defender with soft hands, fluid footwork and a clean exchange. He plays through the baseball with athleticism. Committed to Valparaiso.

+2020 SS Aiden Hinds continues to make strides in his game. At 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Hinds is an athletic defender with feel for the SS position. He showcased above average glove work with soft hands and a clean, quick exchange. Athletic, fluid footwork. Accurate arm with carry at 88 mph. Offensively he hits from an open, athletic stance. He loads back with a longer stride. Uses his lower half well with average balance throughout his swing. Gets to extension. Committed to Ball State.

UNCOMMITTED 2020’s

+SS/RHP AJ Reid (Highland HS) had an impressive day on the mound. The 6-foot, 170 pounder ran his fastball up to 86 mph (83-85) consistently for a strike. He also spun an above average breaking ball for a strike at 70-71 with power type action and 11/5 shape. Short, loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Repeatable delivery with some rhythm and good direction.

+Catcher William Melby (Munster HS) is big and physical at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. The right-handed hitter showcased raw power during his BP round from an uphill path and quick bat speed. Registered a high exit velocity of 92 mph off the tee. From the crouch he was an event best 82 mph and recorded pop times of 1.95-2.05.

+Conner Christopher (Jeffersonville HS) is a 6-foot-1, 170 pound RHP that ran his fastball up to 83 (81-82) with some life. Flashed a couple of sharp breaking balls at 72-73 with late bite. High 3/4 arm action, average arm speed.

+Cameron Crick (Greenwood) HS) is a 5-foot-10, 167 pound OF/3B. Crick had an impressive round of BP showcasing above average bat speed. Level bat path, line drive approach, consistent loud contact. Bat stays in the zone. Solid defender in the outfield with fluid feet, average glove and a clean exchange. Loose, high 3/4 arm action, throws topped out at 86 mph. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash.

+Alex Hewitt (Noblesville HS) is a 5-foot-10, 180 pound C/OF. Put up good numbers on the day; 90 mph exit velocity, 2.00-2.03 pop times, 76 mph from the crouch, 85 mph from the outfield.
