As we continue the countdown of the Top 10 stories in 2016, the Florida Burn Fall Tryouts Notebook Day One article comes in at the sixth spot. 

Coverage of  the first day of tryouts for one of the top team's in the state produced quite a few standouts. At the time, 7 of the standouts were uncommitted and went on to commit in the months following the event. This highlights all of the players that stood out on day one to our PBR Florida staff.

No. 6 Florida Burn Fall Tryouts Notebook Day One

On day one of the Florida Burn 2016 Fall Tryouts, the players (which included the 2017-2020 grad classes) ran through a pro-style workout (which included batting practice and infield/outfield) as well as an 8 inning game. PBR Florida staff covered each grad class and below are some of the highlights from the day. Tomorrow, players are scheduled to run 60s, play in another game, and do another round of batting practice. For a more extensive breakdown of players, we will be doing a class by class breakdown of the standouts following the event.

2017s

Bradford Jones. RHP. Venice HS, FL (2017) 
11/09/16-Committed to Liberty University.
6-foot-1 170 pounds. Fastball ranged from 88-89 with the slider ranging from 72-74 with a 78 mph changeup. Struckout 2 giving up no runs and no hits facing his 5 batters in one inning.

Tanner Ison. 1B. Gulf Coast HS,FL (2017)
5-foot-10 190 pound left handed hitting first basemen had two hits on the day including an opposite field double just short of the left field wall.

Alex Arauz. SS. Sarasota HS,FL (2017)
10/08/16- Committed to Chipola College.
Athletic right handed hitter 6-foot-2 185 pound infielder had two singles on day one in game play with two solid rounds of batting practice.

Arrison Perez. 3B. Flanagan HS, FL (2017)
5-foot-10 170 pounds had two singles during the game and also looked very solid with good actions at third in infield/outfield.

Clayton Coringrato. RHP/OF. Wharton HS, FL (2017)
6-foot-4 185 pounds had a double in game. Showed occasional gap to gap power in BP. Carry on OF throws. Fastball was 82-83 mph

2018s

Trey Cruz. LHP/1B. Newsome HS, FL (2018)
6-foot-4 205 Big physical lefty, over the top arm slot, heavy fastball 80-83 mph, cutter 76-77 mph that tied up right handed hitters, loopy curveball 62-63, tons of upside, arm with high level potential.  Left handed hitter with pop, took two solid rounds of BP.

Pablo Garabito. LHP/OF. Lakewood Ranch HS, FL (2018)
9/12/16- Committed to the University of South Florida.
6-foot-1 160 Slender, lanky frame. Fastball ranged from 83-85 mph. Curveball ranged from 71-73 mph. Had 2 hits in game and 2 solid rounds of BP.

Mitch Donofrio. SS. Venice HS,FL (2018)
11/11/16- Committed to the Florida Atlantic University.
Stocky 5-foot-11 170 pound right handed hitting shortstop had a double and drew a walk after driving a long foul home run.

Jacob Josey. SS. Palmetto HS, FL (2018)
11/13/16- Committed to Florida Atlantic University.
5-foot-11 150 pound wiry right handed hitting middle infielder had two singles during the game as well as spraying line drives in two rounds of BP. Above average actions at short in infield/outfield. Fastball ranged from 81-82 mph, slider was at 71 mph, and change up ranged from 74-76 mph.

Tyler Jones. RHP/OF. Edgewater HS, FL (2018)
6-foot-3, 190 pounds.  Rangy, athletic frame.  Short, quick arm action, 83-84 with run, breaking ball 66.  Struck out two swinging in his inning of work.  In the outfield, covered a lot of ground and threw out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double.

2019s

Josh Rivera. SS/RHP. Avon Park HS, FL (2019)
9/26/16- Committed to Rice University.
6-foot 165 pounder with an athletic, strong build. Solid defender with soft hands. Barreled the baseball in game and BP. up to 84 on the bump

Parker Opie. SS/2B. East Lake HS, FL (2019)
5-foot-11, 180 pounder with a lean, athletic build. Took a couple solid rounds of BP from the left side. Ripped a line drive up the middle for a single, hit a ball over the right field fence foul during the game.

Charlie Vari. C. Tampa Prep, FL (2019)
5-foot-11 right handed hitter. Broad frame provides a good target to pitchers.  Strong arm with quick feet, consistently put throws on the bag.  Drove two balls to the pull side gap with a flat, quick swing.  Ran the bases aggressively.  

Orion Kerkering. RHP. Venice, FL (2019)
5-foot-10, 150 pounds. Over the top arm slot, quick arm, run & sink fastball was 79-82. Can really spin it, breaking ball was a slurve 67 with late bite.  Look for him to only get better as he grows into his body.

Cooper Weiss. 3B/SS. Canterbury HS, FL (2019)
5-foot-9 160 pounds. Strong upper body. One hit in game. Smooth defender, strong accurate throws. Solid rounds of BP.

2020s

Zach Thomas. MIF/RHP. Cypress Lake Middle, FL (2020) 
Showed smooth actions and was 76 mph across the infield. Had three hits on the day. Scrappy. Up to 80 fastball on the mound. 

Mac Guscette. C/3B/RHP. Venice HS, FL (2020) 
10/31/16- Committed to the University of Florida.
2.0-2.01 pop time from behind the plate. Up to 82 fastball on the mound. Makes the plays at 3B. Multiple line drives during BP. All around solid player.

Trace Burchard. C. Labelle HS, FL (2020) 
Impressed from behind the plate with a quick transfer along with accurate throws on the bag that ranged from a 2.0-2.01 pop time.

Nick Romagnola. RHP/Utility. Out of Door Academy, FL (2020)
6-foot-1, 175 Pounds.  Two-way guy.  On the mound, quick arm, over the top arm slot, 78-79 with some run, breaking ball 67, decent changeup with fading action. During batting practice, showed a balanced, simple stroke that demonstrated gap-to-gap power.  

Devin Perez. LHP/OF. Jesuit, FL (2020)
5-foot-11, 145 pounds.  As a pitcher, over the top arm slot, FB 74-77 with run, struck out two batters in his inning on the mound.  Covers a lot of ground in the outfield.  As a hitter, takes aggressive hacks utilizing his lower half very well.
