Trinity Christian uses Big First Inning to Win the 4A State Championship

FORT MYERS—The 4A state championship was delayed about three hours due to weather and caused the game to not start until 10:30 pm. This delayed start appeared to affect Bishop Verot more than it did Trinity Christian, as they jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Bishop Verot, who is one of the best defensive teams in the state, committed two costly errors in this inning that resulted in multiple runs. The Vikings could not recover from this deficit as they went on to fall to Trinity Christian 6-4. 2015 RHP and College of Central Florida Signee Ryan Aspinwall threw six innings and gave up two earned runs to help lead the Conquerors.

Two of the four runs that Trinity Christian scored came off errors and the other two came off singles by 2015 RHP/IF and Furman Signee Rollin Layton and 2015 3B Cody Crawford. The game remained scoreless from there until the top of the sixth when the Conquerors added two more runs that came off a double by 2017 OF Logan Nugent. Leading 6-0 in the sixth inning it seemed as if Trinity Christian was going to cruise to the victory, but Bishop Verot went down fighting. They picked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth, two of which came off a double by 2018 INF/RHP Blaze Alexander, to give the Vikings a much needed boost. Bishop Verot was able to add another run in the seventh but it was too little, too late as Trinity Christian was able to hold on for the state championship victory 6-4.
