This particular class is not only strong at the top with high level talent, but has plenty of depth as well with 36 players from the state of Florida appearing in the Top 250 nationally. This week, we make an update to the Florida Class of 2021 Rankings which saw some shuffling in the Top 5, but a couple of new names that made their way into the Top 10 after impressive summers and strong starts to the fall season. This update to the rankings also sees the list expand to 100 players.
Below are a breakdown of the Top 5 with report and video followed by a look at the Top 10. Throughout the week we will highlight some of the biggest risers and newcomers to the Florida Class of 2021 Rankings as well:
Irving Carter RHP / 1B / Calvary Christian Academy, FL / 2021The Miami recruit has been wowing onlookers for what seems like a long time now, but his ability to continue getting better is what really stands out. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander has defined strength in his lower-half with a bigger back side, and still looks like he may add some strength to the upper-body in the future. He comfortably pitches at 88-91, touching 92 mph, with a longer arm stroke that clears nearly over the top in its release. His quick hand speed out front allows for the ball to jump out of his hand and at the plate. Though the high velocity that the young pitcher produces is clearly impressive, his secondary offering are what make him such a highly-touted prospect. His ability to drop in a tightly-spun curveball at 72-73 along with a changeup at 74-75 is impressive, especially given his age, and combined with a firm, 85-86 cutter, gives him four pitches that he can attack hitters with. Carter’s poise, polish, and athleticism give him a strong chance to continue his upward trend, and makes him a prospect to remember moving forward.

Andy Painter RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2021Florida recruit. Looks the part of a future frontline starter as he already stands 6-foot-4, 195-pounds with durable strength throughout a long-limbed, athletic frame. Routinely repeats a polished delivery releasing out of a high ¾ slot and creating a downward plane. Fastball sits 85-88, touching 90 mph on multiple occasions with minimal effort. Ball jumps on hitters and appears to pick up velocity through the zone. Breaking ball exhibits tighter spin with some multi-tier break at a softer, 67-69 mph. Showcases the ability to move his fastball in and out while understanding how to set up hitters. Elite arm in the 2021 class.

Alejandro Rosario RHP / 3B / Miami Christian, FL / 2021The Miami recruit holds one of the more impressive arsenals of any pitcher in high school, as his electric arm already whips out fastballs 91-93 mph, up to 94, along with advanced feel for his secondary offerings. The wiry, 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander looks like a future ace, and will likely add a substantial amount of strength in the future.

Devin Futrell LHP / 1B / American Heritage, FL / 2021Vanderbilt recruit. Stands at 6-foot-3, 160 pounds on a very projectable frame with natural athleticism and an above average feel for the game. Futrell stands out all over the field, but on the mound he really impresses. He has a loose, easy working arm and features a fastball that sits 82-84 mph with run along with a 68-70 mph curveball that showed depth and shape, throwing it for strikes. At times throughout his windup he has a slight pause in his leg kick, looking to throw off the timing of opposing batters. More velocity to come as he continues to fill out his frame and mature. At the plate, he has an uphill path through the zone and creates leverage with his long limbs by showing pull side pop. From the outfield he surrounds the ball and gets behind his throws with accuracy from an over the top release. High follow prospect who will continue to see jumps in his overall game as he continues to add to his frame and matures. |
Dorian Gonzalez Jr SS / 2B / Belen Jesuit, FL / 2021The Miami recruit features a compact, athletic, 5-foot-9, 180-pound frame with some strength throughout, Gonzalez does not get cheated at the plate from the left side. The infielder is balanced at the plate, and showcases advanced strength through the zone while working on an uphill plane. His mature presence in the box makes him appear older than he is, and he already shows off the ability to drive the ball to both gaps with some lag in the zone. Confident in his hands in the field, Gonzalez also has a strong throwing arm that should allow him to play multiple positions moving forward.
