PBR Georgia Staff

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

Mercer commit
Season Statistics: .308, 3 Doubles, 6 RBI's
22 IP, 3-0, 40 K's, 0.32 ERA

3/9/20 - Mercer commit. 6-foot-1, 160-pound left-handed hitting two-way prospect, a primary pitcher, Cosper started at first base and later moved to the outfield vs. Hebron Christian. At the plate, crouching setup, hands load back and barrel becomes vertical, short strides, good balance. Takes a middle approach with the ability and strength to drive balls gap-to-gap. Nearly walked it off vs. Hebron Christian with a two-out two run home run over the right field fence, but the ball hit off the top of the wall, leading to an RBI double that tied up the game. Made a huge diving catch in the sixth inning, doubling off the runner at second base, Hebron Christian would have extended their lead to two runs had he not.

Bear Madliak, C, Carrollton, 2021
Georgia commit
Season Statistics: .465, 7 Doubles, 1 Triple, 10 RBI's,

3/9/20 - Georgia commit. 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting primary catcher, was slotted in the DH role vs. Hebron Christian. Strong, sturdy frame, advanced strength in lower half and core. Swing works short to the zone as he drops his hands on load to just above his waist, swing path has some incline to it, allowing for him to use his strength to elevate and drive pitches gap-to-gap, power to the pull-side, back spins fly balls. Had an RBI triple that looked like just a routine fly ball to left center, but it just kept carrying and carrying all the way to the warning track, an example of the power his bat holds and how a mishit ball can be driven a long way.

Eli Runyan, LHP, Carrollton, 2021
South Alabama commit
Season Statistics: .283, 3 Doubles, 9 RBI, 10 R
17 IP, 2-0, 27 K's, 1.2 ERA

3/9/20 - South Alabama commit. 6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher, did not start on the mound vs. Hebron Christian but did hit out of the leadoff position and start in center field. Athletically built with lean muscle and strength throughout. Has an advanced feel and approach offensively, great hand-eye coordination allows for him to barrel up pitches and use the entire field with a line drive approach. Is gaining more and more strength in his frame, leading to more power and the ability to further drive the ball.  Started the game off with back-to-back hits, a line drive single up the middle and then an RBI double driven off the right field wall. High level defender in the outfield, covers ground and tracks balls with ease, instinctive first step.

Samuel Simpson, RHP, Carrollton, 2021
South Carolina commit
Season Statistics: .421, 2 Triples, 3 HR, 13 RBI's, 12 R
21 IP, 4-0, 29 K's, 0.667 ERA

2/14/20 - South Carolina commit. 6-foot-1, 160-pound, highly athletic right-handed pitcher, lean build.Long arm action, stiff on the back-side, very quick arm speed to get out front on a consistent basis, easy effort throughout. Has great feel for his delivery and mechanics, repeatedly in-sync. Fastball sat 88-90 mph, showed running and sinking action, threw it for a high volume of strikes. Curveball, 12/8 shape, sharp action to it, good feel for. Threw both pitches for strikes almost on command. With the easy effort in his delivery, it will be no surprise to see Simpson continue to gain velocity. His advanced feel on the mound will make him a prospect to keep an eye on for the 2021 MLB Draft.

Parker Willis, IF, Carrollton, 2021
Season Statistics: .469, 2 Doubles, 9 RBI, 13 R
3/9/20 - 5-foot-10, 145-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder, lean, athletic build. Willis won’t jump out at you physically, but he is a consistent performer both at the plate and up the middle. Defensively, has solid range, clean actions and an above-average arm, high IQ player. At the plate, swing works with some length, quick hands make up for the length, takes a line drive approach, contact hitter, battles at the plate. Above-average runner. Willis is a gamer who just gets the job done.

Chaz Hickman, RHP, Carrollton, 2021
Season Statistics: .280
8 IP, 1 SV, 1.75 ERA

Chael Sullivan, 1B/RHP, Carrollton, 2021
Season Statistics: .216, 1 Double, 1 Triple

2/14/20 - 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitting first baseman and right-handed pitcher. Top of the order bat for the Carrollton Trojans. At the plate, takes a tall setup with an athletic bend in his knees, barrel starts flat, short load back, long stride to a strong, balanced position. Swing works short and smooth through the zone, present bat speed, displayed an above-average hit tool, consistently made contact. With progression in his approach and swing path, the ability to repeatedly drive the ball into the gaps will come. Hopped on the mound late on Saturday and sat 80-82.

Tucker Sullivan, OF, Carrollton, 2021
Season Statistics: 14 AB, .400 OBP

Connor Herriott, RHP, Carrollton, 2021
Season Statistics: 8.1 IP, 1-0, 1 BB

Underclass Standouts:

Ace Williamson, RHP, Carrollton, 2022
Season Statistics: .286, 5 R, 2 RBI

Cade Cosper, RHP, Carrollton, 2023

2/14/20 - A high follow 2023 prospect, stands 5-foot-11, 130-pounds, lean, athletic build, has a long way to go before he is fully developed physically, but has a strong base to currently work. Arm works clean and continuous on the back-side, does a nice job of hiding the ball to a ¾ slot. Short drop and drive delivery, mixes his timing up when out of the windup, falls off the mound towards the third base side. Made a short two batter appearance against Lassiter on Saturday night. Fastball came in at 82 with arm side run. Mixed in a 12/6 curveball with depth at 71-74, deceptive given his arm slot and the way he falls off the mound.
