Team Georgia Game 3 Recap

Team Georgia concluded their 2019 PBR Future Games by taking on their neighbors to the south, Team Florida. A marquee matchup to end the event as two of the top prospects in the entire 2022 class hopped on the mound for Team Georgia: RHP/INF
Dylan Lesko (Buford) and RHP/OF Riley Stanford (Buford).

Lesko, an athletic 6-foot-2 well proportioned right-handed pitcher, did not disappoint in his much anticipated outing at the Future Games.  Lesko just does things easy and tonight was no different. He pounded the zone with all 3 pitches. His fastball sat 90-92 with some late jump to it at the plate.  Even more impressive was his ability and confidence in his secondary pitches, showing and commanding a curveball (70-72) that has swing potential, along with as advanced of a change-up (77-79) as you will find on a young arm.  He throws any pitch at anytime. Lesko is a competitor and had no fear in establishing his fastball and did that tonight.

Stanford entered to pitch the final two innings of the game and was electric. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound prospect is about as projectable as it gets with broad shoulders, a long frame, and plenty of room to fill out. On the mound his arm works long and loose, continuously accelerating quickly to high ¾ slot. The ball flies out of his hand, getting up on batters quickly, has the ability to change timing using a variety of leg kicks. The arm speed and strength are top end. Fastball sat 92-94 (2100-2300rpm), kept around the zone and challenged hitters knowing full well his velocity is one of a kind at his age. Also offered up an 11/5 curveball at 72-74 (2250-2400rpm). Offensively, Stanford hits everything hard and put a show on in batting practice, taking multiple balls out of the park over the left field fence and banging them off the center field wall. On the receiving end of these two pitchers was 2021 C Harry Ford (North Cobb). Ford was arguably the most impressive catcher in attendance at the event, posting some gaudy numbers amongst the catchers on Wednedsay’s workout (6.78 60, 1.83-1.90 pop times, 83 mph catcher velo, 94 mph exit velo). What really stood out from Ford was not only his catch and throw tool, but his ability to receive the ball. His hands are soft, dragging low pitches up for strikes, strong wrists and forearms stick balls on the corners. With flexibility and athleticism throughout his 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame, Ford is able to create an ideal target.

2022 SS Brant Buaghcum (Brookwood) was a defensive bright spotlight for Team Georgia all weekend.  He has soft hands and excellent instincts. Baughcum was on the bases plenty this week, but tonight he showed off his good approach at the plate resulting in two hits.  Baughcum has the ability to drive the ball in gaps, he really competes in the box, giving quality at bat after quality at bat. His two knocks tonight were both opposite field hit, staying on fastballs and hitting them where they were pitched. Super utility-man 2022 INF/RHP Jackson Gaspard (Buford) stood out on the first two days up the middle, making routine plays and turning multiple double plays. He showed good instincts, soft hands and enough arm strength to stick on the left-side of the infield. On the mound, his arm works athletically and loose to a ¾ slot. Fastball played at 83-85, touching 86 (2300rpm). Good feel for a 12/6 curveball with depth, threw for strikes and induced swings and misses with.
