In his second start following a month-long shutdown, Forsyth Central's Ethan Hankins had it in cruise control. As the big right-hander continues to build his strength back following shoulder tightness, he is not showing the same stuff as he did over the summer in terms of velocity, nor should he at this point.  The most important thing for him is to build his arm strength and stamina, which appears to be exactly what he is doing.

Ethan Hankins RHP / Forsyth Central, GA / 2018 In just his second start back in a little over a month, Hankins struck out eight of the nine batters he faced and did it without breaking a sweat.  His fastball touched 94 early and settled in at 90-92, showing the same angle and heavy sink as he always has.  He gets excellent extension out front and the ball does not stick to his fingers.  He mixed in breaking balls (71-73) when he needed, but dominated mostly with his fastball.

 

Returning from being shutdown for any young pitcher is tricky, much less one that has as many eyes on him as Hankins.  I would love to have more of an evaluation at this point, but all I can really report is that Hankins has immense talent and is working his way back into shape very well.
