2/4 Underclass Showcase Results Goshen College: 11-20 Ranked Prospects



Here is a look at the 11th-20th ranked prospects from the Underclass Showcase at Goshen College.  The event took place on February 4th at Goshen College in Goshen, IN. The rest of the prospects will be released in the next few days.

11.  Nick DeFreese, SS/RHP, Concord HS, 2014:  DeFreese is a 6-foot-1 inch, 185 pound sophomore.  Across the diamond he’s 75 mph.  On the mound from a high three quarter arm slot he’s 79-80 with his fastball, topping out at 83.  He shows two off speed pitches; a 66-69 mph breaking ball and 70-72 mph changeup.  At the plate DeFreese hits from both sides of the plate.  From the right side he shows a balanced approach with a short, compact swing along with good bat speed and some pop.  From the left side he shows an upright approach with quick hands.  Defreese posted a 7.12 sixty time at the Goshen event.

12.  Aaron Glatt, RHP/C, Lake Central HS, 2013:   Glatt is a tall 6-foot-2 inch, 190 pound junior.  On the mound Glatt throws from a high three quarter arm slot with good arm action.  He shows a slight turn with his leg kick.  His fastball is a consistent 80-82 mph.  He shows the ability to spin the breaking ball at 71-72 mph.  His other off speed pitch, a 65-67 mph changeup, at times has good sink action and shows the ability to locate it well.

13.  Logan Kaletha, SS, Michigan City HS, 2013:  Kaletha is a 5-foot-11 inch, 175 pound junior with a good build.  At the Goshen event he posted a 7.12 sixty time.  In the field he shows a good approach with solid hands.  Across the diamond he is 75 mph.  At the plate he shows a slightly opened stance with quick hands.  His swing plane is slightly up hill to level and produces good pop to the left side. 

14.  Matthieu Meihls, 1B/RHP, Fort Wayne Carroll, 2014:  Meihls is a projectable 6-foot-3 inch, 180 pound sophomore.  From the field he shows a strong arm at 79 mph.  On the mound he throws from a high three quarter arm slot .  His fastball is a consistent 78-80 mph, touching 81-82.   Meihls changeup is at 71-72 mph with occasional sink action.  His other off speed pitch, a curveball, is 66-69 mph.  With continued growth and refined mechanics expect a velocity increase after his sophomore season.

15.  Allan Korem, C/3B, Munster HS, 2013:  Korem is a 5­-foot-11 inch, 180 pound junior with a strong build.  Behind the plate he shows a strong arm accurate arm at 76 mph and shows the ability to block the ball well.  His pop times were a consistently in the 2.2 range, but with work on his release should improve those numbers.  At the plate he shows a good base and quick hands.  He gets to extension well producing good pop. 

16.  Kaleb DeFreese, OF, Elkhart Central, 2013:  DeFreese is a 5-foot-8 inch, 150 pound junior.  At the event he displayed his speed by running a 6.96 sixty.  From the outfield he shows the ability to come through the ball and was 75 mph.  At the plate he hits from the left side with a wide base.  His swing plane is uphill, but shows the ability to get to extension. 

17.  Brock Logan, 1B/C, Northridge HS, 2013:  Logan is a 6-foot-1 inch, 210 pound big bodied junior.  He shows a strong arm in the field at 81 mph.  Logan’s strength is his power potential at the plate.  He hits from the left side, and his swing can be violent at times, but when getting to extension shows good power. 

18.  Austin Moniot, OF/RHP, Northridge HS, 2013:  Moniot is a 5-foot-11 inch, 165 pound junior.  From the field he was 76 mph.  At the plate his swing is a little long, but shows the ability to get to extension.  His hands are quick, allowing him to barrel up most balls..  Moniot shows some pop potential.  At the event he ran a 7.2 sixty. 

19.  Tyler Beck, 3B/RHP, Saint Joseph’s HS, 2014:  Beck is a 6-foot, 180 pound sophomore with a good build.  In the field he displayed good hands and footwork. Across the diamond he was 75 mph.  At the plate he shows a wide base that is slightly open.  His swing plane is slightly up hill and shows good hands.  When getting to extension he shows some pop to the left side. 

20.  Erik Nelson, MIF, La Porte HS, 2013:  Nelson is a 6-foot, 155 pound junior.  In the field he shows some range to his left and is 74 mph across the diamond.  At the plate he shows a wide base with an open stance.  He possesses quick hands and shows the ability to get to extension.  He looks athletic, but pulls off the ball at times. When going through the ball he shows some pop potential.
