NEW CASTLE – Former conference foes New Castle and Anderson met up Tuesday for an exciting finish. New Castle would get the win thanks to some late inning heroics from Bryce Stevenson.

New Castle jumped on the board first taking a 1-0 lead after the bottom of the first. Tyler Smith came to bat with two on and two outs and lined a RBI single to give New Castle the lead.

In the second New Castle put up four runs all with two outs. Kenny Martin got it started drawing a bases loaded walk. With Grant Malott now on third, he took advantage of the pitchers slow delivery to home, and he stole home to give New Castle another run. Cory Isenbarger followed that with a two run triple to put New Castle up 5-0 after two inning.

In the top of the third Anderson showed their ability two hit with two outs, also putting up four runs. Jerred Quartier got the run scoring starting with a line drive single to right for the first run. After he stole second Jordan Hill singled him in and Julius Neal hit a ball to the fence in right field scoring Hill. Grant Bramwell capped off the inning with a single bringing Neal home to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Both teams would remain silent until Anderson broke through and tie things up in the top of the sixth. Braden Odom singled to lead off the inning and stole second. The throw to second beat him, but a hard slide knocked the ball out of the fielder’s glove into left field. Anthony Fuller took advantage bringing Odom in to score on a single that tied the game at five.

In the bottom of the seventh, another big two out hit ended the game. Tyler Smith drew a two out walk and was pinch run for by Dylan Darling. Bryce Stevenson came up next looking to extend the inning, but instead he drove a ball deep to center, that one hopped the wall allowing Darling to score all the way from first giving New Castle a 6-5 win.
