The PBR IA Prospect ID- Quad Cities event took place on Sunday, April 28, 2019. The event was held at the TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, IA.

Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff in a pro-style showcase. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and the TBK Bank Sports Complex for participating in a quality event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR IA Prospect ID- Quad Cities event.

CATCHER EVALUATIONS (alpha)

Chris Akers, C, Elmwood Park (IL), 2021
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.14 runner. Square stance, some hand rhythm, rocks back into body load, line drive swing plane, shows quick hands to contact, consistently squares baseball and drives  to both sides of field with authority, has flashes of pop in bat, 89 mph exit velocity. Shows ability to receive and block well, quiet actions behind plate, soft receiving hand, quick into blocking position, deadens ball well in front, clean exchanges to throw, repeatable arm action, online throws with above average accuracy and carry to bag, 1.98-2.08 pop times with 74 mph arm strength.

Seth Clausen, SS/C, Pleasant Valley, 2021
5-foot-10, 158-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.38 runner. Slightly open stance and strides to square, small shoulder load into hitting slot, consistent swing and routinely squares baseball with flashes of pop in bat, drives ball to both sides of field, 87 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, shows above avg. actions, works low to ground, hands are soft to field, shows ability to throw from multiple angles, 87 mph arm across infield. Athletic behind plate with raw mechanics, has good hands to receive around zone, quick feet to throw, inconsistent exchange and release, lacks accuracy to bag from quick release on throws, 73 mph arm from behind plate with 2.07-2.09 pop times.

Andrew Hutchcroft, C, Davenport Central, 2021
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.00 runner. Square stance with body load, some stiffness to swing, tends to drop hands to work up and through zone, ground ball contact to pull side with best contact driving baseball to middle of field, 76 mph exit velocity. Solid receiver around the zone, has blocking ability, occasionally late to get into position, shows some lower half flexibility, short arm action, throws around bag, occasional short to bag with avg. carry, 64 mph arm strength with 2.31-2.46 pop times.

Noah Johnston, C, Indianola, 2022
5-foot-10, 152-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 7.51 runner. Taller open stance, has present strength for age, deeper load with leg kick trigger, some stiffness in legs effecting balance, shows above avg. pop in bat to right-center gap, pull approach, soft flare contact to opposite side of field, 82 mph exit velocity. Quiet movements behind plate, sticks pitches in zone, shows ability to block, has quick feet and exchange on throws, solid direction to target, avg. accuracy to bag, tends to leave ball short to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 1.98-2.14 pop times.

Declan McCoy, C, Iowa City Regina, 2021
6-foot-2, 198-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.09 runner. Tall square stance, body load, falls into lower hitting slot, flat swing path, shows solid present strength to pull side of field, firm line drive and ground ball contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Solid receiver, sticks fastballs in zone, solid lower half flexibility, short arm action, stiff release, avg. accuracy to bag on throws, 67 mph arm strength with 2.18-2.33 pop times.

Raymond Schlosser, C, Dubuque Senior, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.66 runner. Open stance, front heel turn trigger, line drive swing plane, dead pull approach, line drive and ground balls off bat, solid contact off barrel, 75 mph exit velocity. Works through baseball with avg. momentum, sure hands, compact arm action, throws lack carry to target but has accuracy, 71 mph arm from outfield. Solid receiver in zone, ball tends to pull glove away on pitches around outside of plate, some stiffness to actions, avg. blocker, clean exchanges to throw, some length to release, most throws inline but short to bag, 70 mph arm strength with 2.20-2.28 pop times.
