7.15 Ozark Prospect ID Analysis: Outfielders

On Tuesday, July 15, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Ozark Open ID Prospect Showcase at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.  Today, we will analyze the outfielders and in the days to come we will take a look at the catchers, pitchers and infielders.  Although many outfielders played another position, this is just a look at the outfield performances.

Top Prospects

Hunter Steinmetz (Parkview, 2015)
Steinmetz is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound left-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 6.75 and home-to-first 4.28. He throws from an over-the-top arm slot. His throws were very accurate and he has a plus arm with good carry. Steinmetz gets good reads and has great actions to the ball. His position velo was 79 MPH. At the plate, Hunter has an athletic setup with a smooth load and long stride. He has good balance through his swing and fast bat speed. His swing produces line drives. Steinmetz had an exit velo of 86 MPH.

Patrick Hoerning
(Nixa, 2015)
Hoerning is a wiry, athletic 5-foot-11, 152-pound right-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 6.72 and home-to-first 4.41. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Patrick’s throws were mostly accurate and had great carry. He has quick fluid feet and works through the ball. His position velo was 84 MPH. At the plate, Hoerning has an open setup and a smooth load with a long stride. He gets good extension through the ball and has some pop. Patrick’s swing produces gap-to-gap line drives. He had an exit velo of 75 MPH.

Kyle Giefer (Kickapoo, 2016)
Giefer is a 6-foot-0 184-pound left handed hitting 1B/OF.  In the outfield, Giefer throws from a high ¾ arm slot and has good carry on the ball.  He has a clean hand-to-glove exchange and made mostly accurate throws to his target. On the infield, Giefer displayed good aggressive actions through the ball. He has soft hands and good range at 1B. He had an outfield velo of 82 MPH and an infield velo of 82 MPH. At the plate, Geifer starts with a balanced setup and relaxed hands. He has a short, quick swing with a gap-to-gap approach that can produce power to pull gap. Giefer produces good bat speed and posted an exit velocity of 84 MPH. He runs a 7.28 60.

Cory Allen (Mountain Grove, 2016) 
Allen is a 6-foot-0, 170-pound left-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.31 and home-to-first 4.62. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. His throws were mostly accurate with some carry. Allen gets good reads and plays through the ball well. His position velo was 69 MPH. At the plate, Cory has an athletic setup with a smooth load. He has advanced approach and above average bat speed. His swing produces gap-to-gap line drives. Allen had an exit velo of 72 MPH.

Adam Barton (Hillcrest, 2015)
Barton is an athletic 6-foot-0, 175-pound right-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.15 and home-to-first 4.45. He throws from an over-the-top arm slot with long arm action. Adam’s throws were mostly accurate and had good carry. He has aggressive action to and through the ball. His position velo was 78 MPH. At the plate, Barton has an athletic setup with a wide stance. He starts with a smooth load and a short stride. He uses his lower half well, with a level bat path. Adam's swing produces line drives. He had an exit velo of 70 MPH.

Alex Bean (Maryville, 2B, 2017)
Bean is an athletic 5-foot-7, 150-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder. He ran a 60 at 7.45 and home-to-first 4.91. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Alex’s throws were mostly accurate and had some carry. His position velo was 65 MPH. At the plate, Bean has an athletic setup and a smooth load. He gets good extension on his swing and has a good approach. Alex’s swing produces gap-to-gap line drives. He had an exit velo of 74 MPH. 

Austin Carter (Webb City, 2015)
Carter is a strong 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-hand hitting outfielder/infielder. He ran a 60 at 7.17 and home-to-first 4.35. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Austin’s throws were mostly accurate and had good carry. He has quick fluid feet and works through the ball. His position velo was 78 MPH. At the plate, Carter has an athletic setup and a smooth load. He gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed. Austin’s swing produces line drives and has power to all fields. He had an exit velo of 78 MPH.

Mark Duley (Joplin, 2017) 
Duley is a highly projectable 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-hand hitting outfielder/first baseman. He ran a 60 at 7.44 and home-to-first 4.50. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with easy arm action. Mark’s throws were mostly accurate and have life. He has aggressive actions to and through the ball. His position velo was 76 MPH from the outfield and 64 MPH on the infield. At the plate, Duley has a balanced setup with a smooth load. He has an exploding lower half, with a short level bat path. Mark's swing produces line drives and has tru power to all fields. He had an exit velo of 86 MPH.  Look for Duley to be a top player in the 2017 Class.  

Tanner Handley (Nevada, 2015)
Handly is an athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.35 and home-to-first 4.60. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Tanner’s throws were mostly accurate and had some carry. His position velo was 75 MPH. Handly moves aggressively to the ball and plays through. At the plate, Handly has an athletic setup with a back load and long stride. He shows fluid rhythm and stays on a level bat path. Tanner produces gap-to-gap line drives. He had an exit velo of 71 MPH.

Gavin Huke (Carthage, 2016)
Huke is an athletic 6-foot-1, 145-pound right-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.31 and home-to-first 4.79. Gavin throws from a high ¾ arm slot. His throws were very accurate and had good carry. His position velo was 81 MPH. At the plate, Huke has an athletic setup with a smooth load. He gets good bat extension and has fluid rhythm through the swing. He had an exit velo of 74 MPH.

Jacob Mitchell (Mountain Grove, 2015)
Mitchell is a strong 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hand hitting outfielder/utility player. He ran a 60 at 7.22 and home-to-first 5.03. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Jacob’s throws were mostly accurate and had good carry. The ball comes out of Jacob’s hand very clean. His outfield position velo was 83 MPH. He also had an infield velocity of 76 MPH. Mitchell also had a POP range of 2.01-2.16 at catcher.  At the plate, Mitchell has an athletic setup with a smooth load and a short stride. He displayed good bat speed and has great hip rotation. Jacob produces line drives and has pull power. He had an exit velo of 90 MPH. 

Zach Snodgress (Carl Junction, 2016)
Snodgrass is an athletic 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.03 and home-to-first 4.31. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws were mostly accurate with some carry. Snodgrass has quick feet and a quick exchange. His position velo from the outfield was 79 MPH. At the plate, Zach has an open setup with a smooth load. He uses his lower half well and produces gap-to-gap line drives. Zach has a tendency to pull and gets some power. Snodgrass had an exit velo of 75 MPH.

Jerrod Thomas (Platte County, 2016)
Thomas is a projectable 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hand hitting outfielder/infielder. He ran a 60 at 7.35 and home-to-first time at 4.63. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and has good life on his throws. Jerod’s throws were accurate and had good carry. He has quick fluid feet and a clean exchange. His position velo was 74 MPH from the outfield and 70 MPH from the infield. At the plate, Thomas has an athletic setup and a smooth load. He has fast bat speed and shows true power to all fields. Jerod’s level swing produces gap-to-gap line drives. He had an exit velo of 72 MPH.


Adam White (Ozark, 2016)
White is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.09 and home-to-first 4.59. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. His throws were mostly accurate with good carry. White gets good reads and plays through the ball. His position velo was 74 MPH. At the plate, Adam has an athletic setup with a smooth load. He has good balance through his swing and uses his lower half well. His swing produces some pull power. White had an exit velo of 80 MPH.
