Part of our coverage area is the Kansas Draft Blog which will cover players pertinent to the current draft year. The 2015 Major League Baseball Draft takes place in early June and Kansas has some prospects that could be hearing their name called.
Ryan Cyr, RHP 2015 Blue Valley HS, Mississippi St. Commit
6'3" 200 lbs strong athletic frame that will take more weight and strength. Good lower half and uses it well. Clean arm action. Aggressive and competitive on the mound. Fastball velo runs up to 91 mph with game average of 89 mph. Good secondary pitch, mainly a 12/6 curveball that will get better, makes his fastball swing and miss. Logged 28.2 innings for the BV Tigers, a strong EKL team, with 45 K's for a K rate of 11.17/7IP.
Austin Hansen, RHP 2015 Olathe Northwest HS, Oklahoma Commit
6'1 slender wiry frame, but strong, efficient use of his clean live arm and mechanics. Not a lot of wasted energy, as most is delivered to the ball, which can run up to 92 mph, and a game average of 88.5 mph. A potential plus breaking ball that can be sharp and impossible to hit at 77 mph and at times loses shape in to a 11/5 slower break. With a work in progress change up, the three pitch mix and a sharp competitor with pitchability, makes for a dominating 40 innings pitched, 55 K's and a K rate of 9.68/7IP
Garrett Hutson, RHP 2015 St Thomas Aquinas (KS) HS, San Jacinto Commit
6'0" all around athlete that plays infield and outfield for the Saints. Good sturdy frame, wide shoulders and a thick lower half, that with some more effort may add a few more pounds of good weight. Short quick arm action and consistent hand speed generates non stop 90-92 mph fastballs, which generates a lot of swing and misses. Average curveball at 72 mph, that can have tight spin, but has been slightly loose and 11/5 in shape. 30 innings, with a average FB velo of 91 mph and 46 K's for a K rate of 10.73/7
Connor Kaiser, SS 2015 Blue Valley West HS, Vanderbilt Commit
6'4" 200 lbs. Lean and slender with quick first steps, but still has a lanky frame, solid lower half and good shoulders that could take a few more pounds of quick twitch fiber make him more agile. Great ground balls reads and has great range both glove and throwing hand side, add in a plus arm equals a good infielder. Soft hands, good glove presentation and quick exchange. Can flat out pick and run, a 6.8/60 yd speed will swipe bags if you need him too. Shows some bat speed from the right side, can hit with some pop, and has shortened his swing down to make more consistent contact.
Isaiah Campbell, RHP 2015 Olathe South HS, Arkansas Commit
6'4" big body wide shoulders and hips. Strong lower half, will gain good weight. Quick long arm action and pretty loose, Gets out over his front side. Fastball has been upper eighties and up to 91 mph. Firm flat in the zone, good control for strikes. Secondary are getting better, but with easy to recognize arm action and downer 11/5 action, hitters have been sitting fastball.
Connor Lungwitz, RHP 2015 Maize HS, Wichita St. Commit
6'5"215 lbs athlete comes to mind. Wide shoulders, great pitchers frame, thick strong lower half and fields his position like a big cat. Simple delivery, winds up and goes. Easy effort with a short quick arm delivers upper eighties fastballs and effort in his delivery he'll get you a 90 mph. Clean and seemingly effortless mechanics with a 3/4 arm slot that changed to a higher 3/4 for his fastball. Pounds the zone with a downward action on his pitches, including at times a tight 12/6 curveball.
Greyson Jenista, 3B, 2015 DeSoto HS, Wichita St. Commit
6'4' 240 lb A big wide body, large frame, wide shoulders and thick legs, he just looks huge and everything his does is big. His size should stay where it is, may get a little more strength and power, but his raw abilities with the bat can be impressive. At 3B he can move side to side pretty good and his linear, come and get the ball speed, should make the slow roller plays. For his size, he can run, better under way and may get you a free base if you take your eyes off him. His calling may be a big power bat from the left side. Better pitch selection and identification will help with that.
