Another Kansas 2015 Prospect Headed to SEC

For the second time in a week, a Class of 2015 Kansas high school baseball player has verbally committed to a Southeastern Conference school.  Isaiah Campbell (’15 Olathe South HS), one of the most heralded pitching prospects in the Midwest, informed Prep Baseball Report of his verbal commitment to the University of Arkansas.  He called the Razorback coaching staff last night to notify them of his decision. 

Last Sunday, Blue Valley West HS shortstop Connor Kaiser (Class of 2015) verbally committed to Arkansas' SEC-foe Vanderbilt.

The physical 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-hander began to catch the attention of college recruiters and professional scouts last spring in the Kansas high school baseball playoffs, followed up by a strong summer.  Campbell continued to make a name for himself with a strong performance at the Midwest Scouts Association combine this past August as well as his mid-week outings for the Royals Elite Scout team throughout the fall. 

Campbell also pitches for the KC Bullets organization.  Prep Baseball Report first saw him pitch in late August for the Bullets at a tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  That day he squared off against Nebraska-commit Zack Engelken (’14 Blue Valley West HS) pitching for Building Champions in one of the best pitching match-ups of the fall.  As expected, both pitchers impressed all in attendance.

Already sporting the frame of an MLB pitcher, Campbell is a young junior having recently turned 16 years old.  The strike-pumping right-hander consistently works in the mid-to-upper 80's with his fastball, has good feel for a change-up and his breaking ball has shown improvement throughout the fall. 

During the fall Campbell visited a number of major colleges and received numerous offers.  Things escalated recruiting-wise even more when he pitched in Jupiter, FL, in late October, as even more schools entered the mix.  In the end, he picked the Razorbacks.

Class of 2015 prospect verbal commitments are non-binding as they cannot ink a National Letter-of-Intent with a college until November 2014.  Campbell and Kaiser are slated to play their first college game in February 2016, although both could be factors in the 2015 MLB Draft.
