The Prep Baseball Report Emporia Prospect Identification Showcase took place on Sunday, August 17th at Sodens Grove Park in Emporia, Kansas. 

There were several two-way players (pitcher + position player) at this event, but keep in mind that the evaluations below are based on the position player side only.  We will post the pitcher's reports in the next few days, a group that will also include the two-way players.

The event included a number of talented uncommitted class of 2015, 2016 and 2017 prospects.  Below are the scouting reports on the 42 position players that participated, listed in alphabetical order:

Reed Adams, SS/2B, Maize HS, 2016
Adams is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder.  At the plate showed a balanced set-up, inline stance, no stride, backward hand load, short bat path, simple line-drive swing, exit velocity 78 mph. 4.72 home to first base, 7.39 60-yard dash.  At shortstop fielded everything cleanly, threw from a high three-quarters slot, 77 throwing velocity, all accurate throws. 

Tanner Allen, 3B, Mission Valley HS, 2015
Allen is a strong 5-foot-11, 190-pound right-hand hitting third baseman.  Hits from a slight crouch, wide stance, closed, strides closed, backward load, aggressive hack, pull approach with bat speed, short finish, 86 mph exit velocity.  Ran 4.62 home to first base, 7.07 60-yard dash.  At third base fielded everything cleanly, short three-quarters arm action, 75 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws. 

Braden Anderson, OF, Labette County HS, 2015
Anderson is an athletic-framed 6-foot, 189-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, inline stance, no stride, backward load, short bat path, slight pull approach, simple line drive swing, 76 exit velocity.  4.68 home to first base, 7.32 60-yard dash.  In the outfield attacked the ball, made clean exchanges, long three-quarters arm action, mostly accurate throws, 81 mph throwing velocity.

Brian Aranda, 1B, Emporia HS, 2016
Aranda is a projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound left-hand hitting first baseman.  At the plate showed a tall set-up, closed stance, no stride, smooth load, long easy swing.  Line drive, oppo approach, 79 mph exit velocity.  4.93 home to first base, 7.66 60-yard dash.  Fielded everything cleanly at first base, three-quarters arm slot, easy arm, arm works, 72 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws. 

Bryce Barnett, 2B/OF, Rose Hill HS, 2016
Barnett is a 5-foot-7, 142-pound switch-hitting second baseman/outfielder.  Hitting right-handed showed a balanced set-up, open stance, strides open, smooth hand load, upper half dominant swing, pull approach, 67 mph exit velocity, 4.86 home to first base time.  Left-handed has a tall set-up, inline stance, no stride, smooth load, middle-of-the field line drive approach, 61 mph exit velocity, 4.72 home to first base.  7.53 60-yard dash.  In the outfield attached the ball, clean exchanges, high three-quarters arm slot, long-to-short throwing motion, 77 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws.  Sure handed in the infield, easy three-quarters arm slot, 72 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws. 

Bryce Baumwart, 2B/C, Emporia HS, 2015
Baumwart is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound switch-hitting second baseman/catcher.  Balanced set-up right-handed, open stance, knee-to-knee pre-stride, strides inline, early load, slight pull approach, extension through the baseball, 80 mph exit velocity, 4.72 home to first base time. Left-handed has a balanced set-up, open stance, strides closed, minimal load, upper half dominant swing, circular pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity, 4.36 home to first base.  7.63 60-yard dash time.  In the infield made clean exchanges, three-quarters throwing motion, 72 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws.  Behind the plate inline footwork, 71 throwing velocity, 2.20 best pop time.

Mitchell Bloss, OF, Blue Valley Northwest HS, 2017
Bloss is a thin, athletic 6-foot, 160-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  At the plate tall set-up, open stance, high hands, strides inline, drops hands, slightly uphill bat path, gap-to-gap line drive approach, 74 mph exit velocity, 4.72 home to first base, 7.00 60-yard dash.  In the outfield high three-quarters slot, 76 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws. Athletic class of 2017 prospect with projection.

Conner Bond, 3B, Shawnee Heights HS, 2016
Bond is a strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound right-hand hitting third baseman.  At the plate tall set-up, open stance, strides inline, smooth load, short bat path, some bat speed, lower half works, gap-to-gap approach, finishes with extension, maintains balance throughout, 80 mph exit velocity.  At third base fluid footwork, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters throwing motion, all throws on the money, 78 mph throwing velocity. 

Jeffrey Bonitatibus, 2B, Emporia HS, 2015
Bonitatibus is a 5-foot-7, 155-pound right-hand hitting second baseman.  At the plate, open stance, strides open, drops hand in load, upper half dominant swing, short finish, 71 mph exit velocity.  4.51 home to first base, 7.08 60-yard dash.  In the infield fielded everything cleanly, throws with low three-quarters slot, 74 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws. 

Nathan Brisco, 1B/OF, Goddard Eisenhower HS, 2015
Brisco is an athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hand hitting first baseman/outfielder.  Athletic set-up at the plate, open stance, strides inline, backward hand load, fast bat, line drive gap-to-gap approach, maintains balance throughout.  Simple, repeatable swing, 86 mph exit velocity.  4.51 home to first base, 6.81 60-yard dash (third best time at the event).  In the outfield showed quick feet, clean exchanges, long three-quarters arm action, 79 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws.  Very athletic player with a projectable frame and bat speed that can run. 

Christian Chalabi, 1B, St. Thomas Aquinas HS, 2016
Chalabi is a physical 6-foot, 200-pound right-hand hitting first baseman.  Balanced set-up, closed stance, backward load, strides slightly closed, strong hands, bat speed, aggressive swing, maintains balance throughout, camp best 92 mph exit velocity.  4.55 home to first base, 7.16 60-yard dash.  In the outfield showed clean exchanges, short three-quarters arm action, 77 mph throwing velocity, very accurate throws.  At first base, fielded everything cleanly, low three quarters arm action, 76 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws.  Strong right-hand hitter with bat speed. 

Alan Clark, OF, Kapaun Mt. Carmel HS, 2015
Clark is a thin, very athletic 6-foot, 170-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  At the plate has a balanced set-up, wide inline stance, smooth load, minimal stride, short bat path, extension through the ball, consistent hard contact in the middle of the field during batting practice.  Simple repeatable swing, 83 mph exit velocity.  4.50 home to first base. 6.76 60-yard dash, second best mark in camp.  In the outfield showed quick feet, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters arm slot, arm works, throws had carry, mostly accurate throws.  Recorded the highest throwing velocity of all position players at the event at 87 mph.  Impressive athlete and baseball prospect. 

Will Clark, SS/3B, Wichita Northwest HS, 2015
Clark is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hand hitting shortstop/third baseman.  Balanced set-up at the plate, open stance, backward hand load, knee-to-knee leg kick, inline stride, aggressive swing with bat speed, line drive oppo approach.  87 mph exit velocity, third best mark in camp.  Ran a 4.51 home to first base, 7.12 60-yard dash.  On the infield showed soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, low three-quarters arm slot, mostly accurate throws, 78 mph throwing velocity.  Projectable frame.  Put up big numbers for Northwest this spring and was named KABC 6A All-State third baseman. 

Hunter Combes, OF, Abilene HS, 2016
Combes is a 5-foot-8, 135-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  During batting practice showed a tall set-up, open stance, strides inline, smooth hand load, slight pull approach, 74 mph exit velocity.  4.50 home to first base, 7.06 60-yard dash.  Attacked the ball in the outfield, clean exchanges, short three-quarters arm action, 76 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws.

Kaleb DeLaTorre, SS/2B, Fort Scott HS, 2016
DeLaTorre is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-hand hitting middle infielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, closed stance, shifts weight back pre-stride, strides closed, smooth hand load, loose hands, some bat speed, slightly uphill bat path, middle of the field approach, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, 83 mph exit velocity.  4.62 home to first base, 7.33 60-yard dash.  In the infield showed fluid footwork, clean exchanges, short three-quarters arm slot, 71 mph throwing velocity, accurate throws.  Left-hand hitting class of 2016 infielder to follow. 

Blake Duerksen, SS/2B, Wichita Heights HS, 2016
Duerksen is a 6-foot, 160-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder.  Hits from a slight crouch.  Wide, open stance.  Strides slightly open, long hand load, line drive approach, 72 mph exit velocity.  4.62 home to first base, 7.41 60-yard dash.  In the infield showed fluid footwork, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters arm action, 70 mph throwing velocity, very accurate throws. 

Dillon Engelland, OF, Buhler HS, 2016
Engelland is a strong, athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound switch-hitting outfielder.  From the right side of the plate has a balanced set-up, inline stance, no stride, upper half dominant, simple line drive swing with bat speed, maintains balance throughout, 86 mph exit velocity, 4.43 home to first base.  Left-handed balanced set-up, wide inline stance, no stride, minimal hand load, short bat path, middle-oppo approach, maintains balance throughout, 82 mph exit velocity, 4.22 home to first base.  Recorded the top 60-yard dash time at the event with a 6.70.  In the outfield attacked the ball, quick feet, clean exchanges, loose high three-quarters arm action, throws have carry, 83 mph throwing velocity.  Athletic, switch-hitting middle of the field prospect in the 2016 class. 

Casey Garner, OF, Bluestem HS, 2015
Garner is an athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  Hits from slight crouch, wide inline stance, leg kick stride, short bat path, short finish, strong hands, generates bat speed, middle-oppo line drive approach.  87 mph exit velocity, third best mark at the event.  Ran 4.18 home to first base, best time at camp.  Quick feet in the outfield, long three-quarters arm action, some effort, throws had carry, 83 mph throwing velocity.  Fast-twitch left-hand hitting outfielder with strength.

Brady Garrison, C, Mill Valley HS, 2017
Garrison is a strong 6-foot, 207-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  Balanced set-up at the plate, slightly open stance, short inline stride, minimal hand load, short to the ball, slightly uphill bat path, fast bat, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, gap-to-gap approach with juice, 87 mph exit velocity.  Despite being one of the youngest players in camp, took the most impressive rounds of batting practice of the group.  Ran a 4.86 home to first base, 7.69 60-yard dash.  Quick feet behind the plate, inline stride, repeats footwork, maintains balance, short over-the-top throwing motion.  74 mph throwing velocity, top mark among the catchers at the event.  2.10-2.15 pop time range.  Talented 2017 catching prospect with power projection at the plate. 

Dylan Hamilton, OF, Berean Academy, 2016
Hamilton is a thin, athletic-framed 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  Hits from a balanced set-up, open stance, short inline stride, smooth hand load, short bat path, lower half in sync, hands work, quick hands.  Simple, repeatable line drive swing, flattens ball out in the middle of the field.  Extension through the baseball, 83 mph exit velocity.  4.59 home to first base, 7.12 60-yard dash.  Athletic footwork in the outfield, throws with short high three-quarters arm action, 78 mph throwing velocity. 

Tristan Hawkinson, OF, Buhler HS, 2016
Hawkinson is a 5-foot-11, 145-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  Slight crouch set-up, open stance, strides slightly open, drops hands in load, slightly uphill bat path, pull approach, 76 mph exit velocity.  4.61 home to first base, 7.19 60-yard dash time.  Quick feet in the outfield, attacks the ball, throws with quick three-quarters arm action, arm works, 80 mph throwing velocity.

Brett Huelsmann, SS/2B, Goddard Eisenhower HS, 2016
Huelsmann is an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder.  At the plate showed a balanced set-up, slightly open stance, inline stride, short bat path, strong hands, middle of the field approach, simple line drive oriented swing, repeats, 82 mph exit velocity.  4.28 home to first base, the best time for a right-hand hitter at the event.  6.88 60-yard dash, fourth best time at the event.  In the infield showed fluid footwork, quick hands, loose three-quarters arm action, 75 infield throwing velocity, all throws on the money.  Very athletic middle infield prospect with a simple swing and speed. 

Jack Leyden, OF, Bishop Carroll HS, 2016
Leyden is a wiry, athletic 5-foot-9, 140-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, slightly closed stance, strides slightly closed, smooth hand load, easy swing, gets barrel out front, bat path is short to long, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, 78 mph exit velocity.  Middle of the field approach.  7.31 60-yard dash time.  In the outfield showed soft hands, athletic footwork, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters arm action, arm works, 81 mph outfield throwing velocity. 

Griffin Myers, SS/2B, McPherson HS, 2015
Myers is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound switch-hitting middle infielder.  Tall set-up hitting right-handed, open stance, strides closed, short bat path, slight pull, 71 mph exit velocity, 4.69 home to first base.  Left-handed, balanced set-up, slightly closed stance, strides closed, backward load, short swing, slightly uphill bat path, 74 mph exit velocity, 4.54 home to first base.  7.62 60-yard dash.  At shortstop showed easy, three-quarters arm action, 73 mph throwing velocity, mostly accurate throws. 

Alec Ober, SS/2B, Shawnee Mission West HS, 2015
Ober is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder.  Athletic set-up, open stance, strides inline, smooth load, short bat path, extension through the baseball, lower half in sync, bat speed, hands work, maintains balance throughout, line drive middle of the field approach.  Simple, aggressive swing, 84 mph exit velocity.  4.86 home to first base, 7.32 60-yard dash.  In the infield athletic actions, soft hands, quick exchanges, loose three-quarters arm action, arm works, throws have carry.  80 mph throwing velocity, top mark among infielders, accurate throws. 

Jacob Owens, OF, St. James Academy, 2017
Owens is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, open stance, strides slightly closed, minimal hand load, loose hands, hands work, level bat path, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, 77 mph exit velocity.  Line drive approach.  4.37 home to first base from the right side, second best time at the event.  6.95 60-yard dash time.  In the outfield attacked the ball, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters arm action, 80 mph throwing velocity.  Very athletic class of 2017 prospect.

William Owens, 2B/3B, Labette County HS, 2015
Owens is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound right-hand hitting second baseman/third baseman.  At the plate tall set-up, open stance, strides open, minimal hand load, short bat path, pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity.  In the infield fielded everything cleanly, low three-quarters arm action, 73 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws. 

Chandler Post, OF, Andale HS, 2016
Post is a 5-foot-8, 132-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  At the plate hits from a crouch with a wide, inline stance.  No stride, backward load, slight up hill bat path, oppo approach, extension through the baseball, 75 mph exit velocity.  4.89 home to first base, 7.43 60-yard dash time.  In the outfield attacked the ball, fluid footwork, loose three quarters arm action, 76 mph throwing velocity.

Nathan Reeder, OF, Shawnee Mission Northwest HS, 2015
Reeder is a strong 5-foot-10, 180-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, open stance, strides slightly closed, smooth load, slight uphill bat path, lower half in sync, easy swing, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, line drive gap-to-gap approach, 91 mph exit velocity was second best mark in camp.  4.30 home to first base.  Moves well in the outfield, attacked the ball, clean exchanges, short high three-quarters arm action, arm works.

Lane Sadler, C, Derby HS, 2017

Brock Schaffer, OF, Andover Central HS, 2015
Schaffer is a 6-foot-4, 175-pound left-hand hitting outfielder.  During batting practice showed a tall set-up, closed stance, strides closed, minimal hand load, short bat path, generates leverage, explosive lower half, delivers barrel out front, middle of the field approach, 83 mph exit velocity.  4.62 home for first base, 7.20 60-yard dash.  In the outfield made clean exchanges, loose high three-quarters arm action, 85 mph throwing velocity, throws have carry to them.  Projectable left-hand hitter with plenty of room to fill out.

Ryan Schippers, 1B, St. Thomas More Prep, 2015
Schippers is a physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hand hitting corner infielder.  Balanced set-up at the plate, wide inline stance, strides in place, level bat path, upper half dominant, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout, line drive gap-to-gap approach, 81 mph exit velocity.  At first base moved well, sure-handed, loose three-quarters arm action, arm works, 76 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws. 

Ty Seyfert, SS/2B, Bishop Carroll HS, 2016
Seyfert is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-hand hitting middle infielder.  During hitting evaluations showed a tall set-up, open stance, strides slightly open, smooth hand load, short bat path, line drive approach, 78 mph exit velocity.  4.47 home to first base, 7.00 60-yard dash time.  At shortstop fielded everything cleanly, athletic actions, fluid footwork, easy three-quarters arm action, 75 mph throwing velocity, very accurate throws.  Solid all around player. 

Dylan Sinclair, C/3B, Rose Hill HS, 2015
Sinclair is a 5-foot-8, 170-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  Balanced set-up at the plate, slightly open stance, strides slightly open, backward hand load, level bat path, slight pull, line drive approach, 75 mph exit velocity.  During catching evaluations footwork under control, strides inline, short over-the-top throwing motion, 72 mph throwing velocity, 2.08-2.10 pop times.

Nick Sloan, SS, Paola HS, 2015
Sloan is a long-legged, athletic-framed 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hand hitting shortstop.  Balanced set up at the plate, inline stance, leg kick, strides inline, smooth hand load, level bat path, extension through the baseball, loose hands, back side in sync, easy swing, 83 mph exit velocity.  4.53 home to first base, 7.06 60-yard dash time.  In the infield showed athletic actions, fielded everything cleanly, quick exchanges, easy low three-quarters arm action, 79 mph throwing velocity, very accurate throws.  Does everything on the field with easy, athletic actions and has a projectable frame with plenty of room to fill out. 

Derek Summey, OF, Emporia HS, 2015
Summey is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-hand hitting outfielder.  Athletic set-up at the plate, inline stance, short slightly closed stride, no hand load, compact swing, upper half dominant swing, slight pull approach, 80 mph exit velocity.  4.93 home to first base, 7.51 60-yard dash.  In the outfield showed short, high three-quarters arm action, 77 mph throwing velocity.

Tate Swank, C, Burlington HS, 2016
Swank is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  Tall set-up, open stance, strides slightly closed, smooth hand load, level bat path, upper half dominant, 76 mph exit velocity.  4.90 home to first base, 7.86 60-yard dash.  Behind the plate showed short over-the-top arm action, 68 mph throwing velocity, pop times in the 2.05-2.20 range. 

Nathan Vossman, 3B/OF, Blue Valley Northwest HS, 2016
Vossman is a physical 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-hand hitting third baseman/outfielder.  At the plate showed a tall set-up, slightly open stance, bat laid back, strides slightly closed, long smooth hand load, short bat path, back side in sync, gap-to-gap approach, finishes with extension, maintains balance, 74 mph exit velocity.  4.89 home to first base, 7.22 60-yard dash time.  In the outfield fielded everything cleanly, long high three-quarters arm action 81 mph throwing velocity.  Sure-handed in the infield, throws with three-quarters arm action, 75 mph throwing velocity, all accurate throws.

Zachary Walker, C, Paola HS, 2015
Walker is a 6-foot, 180-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  Balanced set-up at the plate, open stance, toe tap followed by inline stride, slight hand drop in load, upper half dominant, slight uphill bat path, bat speed, 85 mph exit velocity.  4.75 home to first base, 7.41 60-yard dash.  Behind the plate throws with short low three-quarters arm action, 69 mph throwing velocity, 2.21-2.32 pop times. 

Paul Wolff, C, Blue Valley West HS, 2016
Wolff is a physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  During hitting evaluations showed a tall set-up, narrow inline stance, toe tap followed by inline stride, minimal smooth hand load, short bat path, generates bat speed, slight pull approach, finishes with extension, maintains balance throughout, 86 mph exit velocity.  4.83 home to first base, 7.71 60-yard dash.  Showed easy high three-quarters arm action behind the plate, top throwing velocity for catchers in camp at 74 mph, throws had carry, 2.11-2.15 pop times.

Colton Woodard, 1B/OF, Bishop Carroll HS, 2016
