Junior Winter Standouts

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The spring season is getting underway so winter events are wrapping up. Our state directors take a look at some juniors that have stood out recently.

Brendan Bagwell, C/RHP, South Mecklenburg HS, NC
Bagwell stands at 6 feet, 185 pounds and put together an impressive day at the Queen City Preseason Open Scout Day, posting an outfield velocity of 94 mph and pop times in the 1.97-2.06 range. A primary catcher, he utilizes quick feet behind the plate with clean transfers across his chest. He throws with a short arm action through an over-the-top slot, reaching a positional velocity of 79. The arm also plays on the mound where he has touched 86. Offensively, the strength is beginning to show in the swing. He hits with a balanced set-up, using a short stride in his load and working short to the ball with a level path through the zone. He also ran a 4.19 in the 30-yard dash.
