This week, In the Weeds shifts its focus from pitchers to infielders. The seven players highlighted come from the Katy Trail region. The Katy Trail was in the past one of the most important stretches of railways connecting Kansas, Missouri, and Texas (along with some others). With that, the players today come from those three states. Some have been overlooked while others are just starting to hit their strides. All have a chance to take steps forward in the spring. Smooth hands on the infield, strength at the plate, and athleticism all around can be found from the seven below.

Cole Posey SS / 2B / Georgetown, TX / 2019

Posey’s hands are relaxed at the plate, and work effortlessly quick through the zone with strength. Currently 5-foot-10, 175-pounds with proportional strength throughout, Posey starts opened with his bat rested on the back shoulder before squaring off with a stride that pushes his hands fluently back before they work level through the zone with a high finish. He demonstrates the ability to hit the ball to all fields while showcasing some developing pull side power. A 6.94-runner, Posey’s speed transfers well to the infield. He has a high motor, and plays the game hard at all times while still being in control of his body. Sure-handed, Posey features stiffer arm strength, but also has the ability to make throws from multiple angles including on the run. Trending upward, Posey is an infielder that coaches will want to pay attention to moving forward.
