MOKAN Pitchers Showcase: 2017 and 2018 Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Winter Pitcher Showcase at Prodigy Baseball Academy in Kansas City, Missouri on February 19. Nearly 30 pitchers in the 2020 to 2017 classes participated.
Today we will break down the pitchers in the 2018 and 2017 classes. This group produced two pitchers topping at 90 mph with their fastball, four other pitchers were 84 mph or better. Five pitchers in this group were left-handed and two side-arm were side arm or lower with their arm slot.
Profiles have been updated with profile pitcher, velocities and videos. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Zane Barr, RHP, Fort Osage (MO), 2018
Barr is a 6-foot-2 181-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Barr worked 88-90 mph with fastball, some flashing cutting action, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, 74-76 mph, sliderish, late break, change up at 81-82 mph, showed a splitter at 77-79 mph, downward action, athletic frame with quick arm, over the top release, fastball has some downhill tilt, slight coil at balance point, in line stride.
Jarrett Bowman, LHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Bowman is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Bowman has a controlled delivery with an accelerated arm, creates in line direction down the mound, hand separate with stride, over the top release, body stays balanced during delivery, smooth and under control tempo, fastball at 75-77 mph, has some late sink, 2-8 shaped curveball, early break, 65-67 mph, change up with near fastball arm speed, slight arm side sink late, 68-70 mph, showed command of all three pitches, high percentage of strikes.
Collin Brougham, RHP, Park Hill South (MO), 2018
Broughman is a 6-foot-2 163-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Brougham has a lean long limbed frame, high three quarters release, controlled leg lift, throws with some effort at end of delivery. repeats release and showed command of fastball, fastball at 82-84 mph, touching 84 mph four times during eval, showed and 11-to-5 curveball, 72-73 mph, sharp break, controllable change up at 72-76 mph, mostly straight with some flashing arm side release.
Jack Carneal, LHP, Lathrop (MO), 2018
Carneal is a 6-foot-3 165-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Carneal has a slender frame with loose arm action meaning increases has continues to develop, all pitches have moment, simple and athletic delivery with high three quarters arm action, fastball at 77-79 mph, late run an sink, strikes, knuckle curveball with 2-to-8 action, 63-65 mph, throws for strike, late action, also showed a true curveball with more 1-to-7 break, tight spin, 62-64 mph, down in zone.
Kaden Helsel, RHP, South Callaway (MO), 2018
Helsel is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Helsel touched 84 mph twice during pitching evals, working from an over the top release, controlled leg lift, in line stride, arm works, strong and athletic frame, showed feel for a breaking ball with 11-to-5 break, tight spring, late action, sharp break, overall good pitch that looks like a true slider, command of a change up 71-72 mph, late sink.
Cameron Johns, RHP, Olathe South (KS), 2018
Johns is a 6-foot-2 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Johns touched 87 mph with his fastball, working mostly 85-86 mph, some on a downhill plane, over the top release, breaking ball at mostly 66-67 mph, 11.-to-5 shaped, change up has arm side release, 73-75 mph, smooth tempo with leg lift, throws with effort at the end of delivery, creates in line direction down the mound, arm works, strong and projectable frame.
Brett Leon, LHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Leon is a 5-foot-9 168-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Leon stays under control during delivery, over the top release throwing with more effort as he starts towards the mound, quick arm action, over the top release, fastball at 73-74 mph, breaking ball has 12-to-6 action, gradual break, change up has sinking action, down in the zone, 61-64 mph.
Jake Lufft, RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2018
Lufft is a 6-foot 186-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Lufft has a high three quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, simple and repeatable delivery, quick arm speed, durable frame, shows command of three pitches, four-seam fastball flashes cutting action, two-seam fastball has arm side run at 87 mph, overall fastball at 88-90 mph, has sharp 11-to-5 breaking ball, 73-74 mph, starts on fastball plane, throws change up consistently down in zone, 82-83 mph, fastball arm speed, arm side release.
Alex Luyet, RHP, Smith Cotton (MO), 2018
Luyet is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Luyet’s fastball had arm side sink at 78-80 mph, breaking ball had sharp 11-to-5 action, 66-68 mph, throws change up with fastball arm speed mostly 74-76 mph, some flashing late sink, athletic frame, loose over the top arm slot, throw with regular effort, body stays under control during delivery.
Matthew Peck, RHP, Shawnee Mission South (KS), 2017
Peck is a 6-foot-4 120-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2017 class. Peck was mostly 83-85 mph with a heavy fastball, down in the zone, downhill plane, breaking ball was 63-64 mph, 11-to-5 shape, change up at 70-71 mph, arm side release, repeats delivery, controlled leg lift to balance point, body under control, quick arm speed with high three quarters release, throws downhill, athletic finish, projectable frame capable adding strength.
Sam Shaffer, RHP, Liberty (MO), 2018
Shaffer is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class Shaffer is a sub-marine thrower with low arm slot, slight coil at balance point, showed feel for fastball and change-up, slider showed to be a good pitch and he continues to create feel, fastball has arm side sink, fastball at 70-72 mph, slider has 10-to-4 sweeping action, 64-67 mph, change up has depth with arm side sink, 65-68 mph, all pitches have movement out of same release point.
Alex Slocum, RHP, Liberty (MO), 2018
Slocum is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Slocum has balance and body control in delivery, long arm circle out of glove, high three quarters arm slot, will occasionally drop arm slot, high percentage of strikes with all pitches, throws with regular effort, fastball at 77-80 mph, cutting action, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 61-52 mph, showed slider with more 10-to-4 action, 66-69 mph, command of change up at 70-73 mph, cutting action.
Alex Stangohr, LHP, Lee's Summit West (MO), 2017
Stanghor is a 6-foot-3 190-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri's 2017 class. Stanghor was 81-83 mph with is fastball, shows occasional late run, high number of strikes, breaking ball at 70-72 mph, 1-to-8 action, late break, change up at 77-78 mph, flashes arm side release, loose high three quarters release, simple and repeatable delivery, high percentage of strikes with three pitches, strong frame
Jack Stoddart, RHP, St. Pius X (MO), 2018
Stoddart is a 5-foot-10 168-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Stoddart has a high three quarters release, athletic and repeatable delivery, quick arm speed, in line down the mound, fastball at 78-79 mph, two-seam action, slight sinking action late, curveball at 62-64 mph, 11-to-5 spin, command of slider at 66-68 mph, 10-to-4 action, late action, change up at 73-74 mph, fastball arm speed, arm side release.
Michael Tyhurst, LHP, Smithville (MO), 2018
Tyhurst is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Tyhurst has a loose arm action, throws with regular effort, smooth tempo to delivery, hands raise and lower with leg lift, repeats delivery, strike thrower, late run to his fastball, over the top release, 77-79 mph, curveball has 2-to-8 shape, 62-64 mph, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 70-72 mph, flashing cutting action.
Jared Viertel, RHP, Boonville (MO), 2018
Viertel is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Viertel has a long and lean frame, clean and loose arm action, in line stride with athletic finish, throws a heavy fastball at mostly 80-82 mph, curveball looks to be a good pitch with late action, 12-to-6 shape, 68-63 mph, controllable change-up at 73-75 mph, arm side release, near fastball arm speed.
Vincent Vilott, LHP, Shawnee Mission Northwest (KS), 2017
Vilott is a 6-foot-2 175-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas 2017 class. Vilott has a lean and athletic frame, slight rock step in wind up, body stays under control, over the top release, in line stride, fastball at mostly 81-82 mph, cutting action, commanded curveball at 73-75 mph, late 1-to-7 shape, sharp break, good pitch, change up down in the zone at 76-77 mph, near fastball arm speed.
Cody White, RHP, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2018
Wells is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. White has a strong frame, slight coil at balance point, comes from a side-arm release, creates movement on all pitches, some deception coming down the mound, fastball at 75-77 mph, running action, breaking ball is a 10-to-4 slider, near fastball arm speed, change up is a good pitch, 63-63 mph, arm side sink, late, repeats release point on all pitches.
