MOKAN Winter Open Showcase: Corner Infielders Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Kansas Preseason MOKAN Winter Open Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy in Kansas City on February 17. Nearly 80 players in the 2018 to 2020 classes from around the region attended.
Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. In the days to come, we will break down the showcase position-by-position, taking a look at the corner infielders today. Although some corner infielders participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the corner infield performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order according to state.
Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

KANSAS CORNER INFIELDERS
Jack Beckley, 3B, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Beckley is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance with smooth pre-swing rhythm, in line stride, mostly middle of the cage to pull side line drives in batting practice, flashing some power. On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, smooth glove to hand transfer, working with active feet, plays through the ball, accurate thrower.
Nicholas Best, 3B, Olathe East (KS), 2018
Best is a strong framed 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 4.26 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, little wasted movement in load, short stride, swing produced mostly opposite field contact with some line drives to the middle of the cage. On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters relase, fields ball in positon ready to throw, fluid transfer, accurate throws.
Joshua Bortka, 3B, Turner (KS), 2018
Bortka is a thin and lean 6-foot-5 190-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velo. Botka has quick twitch actions on the mound and in the infield. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, quick bat speed, stays the middle of the middle of the cage, aggressive swing. On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, loose three quarters release, quick arm action, moves well to the ball, plays through the ball with fluid transfer, somewhat accurate throws.
Preston Evans, 1B, Topeka West (KS), 2018
Evans is a 6-foot-3 245-pound right-handed first baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 4.81 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced hard contact to the middle of the cage during hitting evaluations, power potential, simple and repeatable load, no wasted movements, aggressive to the ball. On the infield, high three quarters release, moves through the ball to catch, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws, aggressive to the ball at first base, quick catch and throw.
Jake Faust, 3B, Blue Valley (KS), 2018
Faust is an athletically built 5-foot-11 189-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2018 class. He ran a 4.19 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, open set up with rhythm in hands, in line stride, slight internal rotation to load, quick hands, gap-to-gap approach, hands work inside the ball, short to contact, solid contact during hitting evals. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top lease, quick catch and throw, somewhat accurate across infield.
Nick Modrcin, 1B, St. James Academy (KS), 2018
Modrcin is a 6-foot-2 195-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 4.56 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, strong hands, pull side power, aggressive swing, simple and repeatable mechanics. At first base, 78 mph positional velo, short three quarters arm slot, athletic footwork to the ball, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.
Brandon Ryan, 3B, Olathe South (KS), 2019
Ryan is a 6-foot-1 210-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.27 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. On the infield, open stance, controlled leg lift, short stride, quick hands with middle to pull side power, level path through the hitting zone. On the infield, 76 mph infield velo, over the top release, with feet gaining ground to 1B after the catch, fluid footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws.
Cole Schreiber, 1B, Blue Valley West (KS), 2019
Schreiber is a lean and projectable 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an exit velo of 80 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load into back side, some hand load, hand generate bat whip through the zone, gap-to-gap approach, repeats. At first base, 71 mph positional velo, moves to ball with a purpose, over the top release, accurate throws, athletic footwork.
MISSOURI CORNER INFIELDERS
Massimo Avelluto, 3B, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Avelluto is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.63 home to first and had an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with open stance, smooth load to back side, in line stride, some looseness to to hands, level path, gap to gap line drives. On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release with some momentum after the catch, clean transfer, accurate throws.
Anthony Blanchette, 1B, Grain Valley (MO), 2018
Blanchette is a 5-foot-8 165-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, slightly closed stride, level bat path with mostly middle to pull gap line drives. At first base, 74 mph positional velo, three quarters release, clean exchange with momentum to throw after the catch, mostly accurate throws.
Jakob Bush, 3B, Lawson (MO), 2019
Bush is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.58 home to first and has a 67 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach with power potential, balanced set up, smooth load into back side, minima hand movement, aggressive swing. On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball, clean transfer with feet gaining momentum ater the catch, over the top release, accurate throws.
Logan Moran, 3B, Liberty North (MO), 2018
Moran is a 5-foot-8 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.46 home-to-first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, reverse toe touch, in line stride, accelerated hands, middle of the cage line drives during hitting evals. On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, three quarters release, clean transfer with soft hands, fluid footwork, accurate throws.
Tre Morris, 3B, Battle (MO), 2018
Morris is a well-built 5-foot-10 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and has an exit velo of 94 mph. At the plate, consistently squared up balls during batting practice mostly to the middle of the field, power potential, tall/open and thin stance, in line stride, aggressive with the ball flying off bat. On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, moves well for size, athletic actions, quick catch and throw, over the top release, somewhat accurate throws.
Anthony Orlando, 3B, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Orlando is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, starts in a crouched position, separates with hand load and stride, gap-to-gap approach, hands control the bat, flashed power to pull side. On the infield, high three quarters release, 71 mph positional velo, made all plays cleanly, fluid transfer with fluid footwork to the ball, mostly accurate thrower.
Bennett Patton, 1B, Hickman (MO), 2018
Patton is a strong framed 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth rhythm in hands pre-swing, rocks back to load in lower half, swing produced mostly middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice. Salyers is a 5-foot-10 163-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, slightly open stance, in line stride, swing produced middle to opposite field contact during hitting evaluations. At first base, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, aggressive to the ball, moves through the catch, mostly accurate throws, long limbed and big target.
Landon Zartman, 1B, Stockton (MO), 2018
Zartman is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.88 home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, no wasted movement in load, middle to pull side contact during hitting evaluations. On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, moves to the ball aggressively, somewhat accurate throws.
