MOKAN Winter Showcase: 2019 and 2020 Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Kansas Preseason MOKAN Winter Open Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy in Kansas City on February 17.  Nearly 80 players in the 2018 to 2020 classes from around the region attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. We have broken down the showcase position-by-position, and will finish up the analysis portion of the event with a look at the 2019 and 2020 pitchers. Although some of these pitchers participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the pitching performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order according to state.

Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Kansas Pitchers

William Hann, RHP, Olathe North (KS), 2019
Hann is a 6-foot 183-pound right-handed pitcher Kansas’ 2019 class. Hann is long levered with an aggressive delivery,  high three quarters release, lands in line, finished to first-base side, quick arm speed, fastball at 78-80 mph, running action, 11-to-5 action on breaking ball, fastball arm speed, locates down in the zone, change-up flashed cut, 62 mph.

Brandon Ryan, RHP, Olathe South (KS), 2019
Ryan is a 6-foot-1 210-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Ryan has an over the top release point, throws with some effort, repeats delivery with some deception,  fastball at 78-81 mph, some with downhill tilt, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, gradual break, down, showed feel for a change up, 70-71 mph, straight.

Missouri Pitchers

Sam Beuerlein, RHP, Park Hill South (MO), 2019
Beuerlein is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Beuerlein sat mostly 84-86 mph with his fastball, touched 86 on three pitches, strong framed with an over the top release, controlled leg lift with a coil at balance point, accelerated down the mound, breaking ball had 11-to-5 action, some flashing late and sharp break, change up at 74-76 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Jayton Cromer, RHP, Lebanon (MO), 2019
Cromer is a 5-foot-11 164-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Cromer comes from a high three quarters release, in line stride, throws with regular effort, aggressive with fastball, 75-78 mph, high number of strikes, 11-to-5 shaped breaking ball, early break, change up at 69-72 mph, some arm side release,

Coulton Doyle, RHP, Hickman (MO), 2019
Doyle is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Doyle has a high three quarters release, high coiled leg lift, lands in line, fastball at 75-79 mph, breaking ball at 62-64 mph, 11-to-5 spin, down in zone, straight change up at 69 mph, near fastball arm speed.  

Grant Geren, RHP, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Geren is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Geren has a high three quarters release, throws with regular effort, fastball at 75-76 mph, some having downhill tilt, 50-50 strikes, gradual 12-to-6 action on curveball, 62-63 mph, change up at 65-67 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Daniel Hammond, RHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Hammond is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Hammond showed command of three pitches, fastball at 80-83 mph, over the top release, has two-seam action, breaking ball showed 11-to-5 shape, 70-71 mph, consistently down, controllable change up at 77-78 mph, near fastball arm speed, repeatable delivery with loose arm action.

John Herrman, RHP, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Herrman is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Herrman comes from a high three quarters arm slot, smooth rhythm in delivery, hands raise with leg lift, 79-81 mph fastball, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, some flashing depth, change up at 72 mph, sinking action, throws for strike.  



Jason Jakubec, RHP, Kearney (MO), 2019
Jakubec is a 5-foot-7 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Jakubec’s delivery has a smooth tempo, high three quarters release, throws with some effort at release, stays in line down the mound, fastball at 71-72 mph, 12-to-6 shape, straight change-up at 65-67 mph. 

Grant Jones, RHP, Joplin (MO), 2019
Jones is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Jones has an up-tempo delivery, strike thrower with three pitches, comes from a high three quarters release, will drop to lower slot occasionally, hides ball well,  throws with some effort, fastball at 79-81 mph, some on a downhill plane, curveball has 10-to-4 action, sharp break at times, change up at 78 mph. 

Ben Kobel, RHP, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Kobel is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Kobel is a strong framed strike thrower, high three quarters release, repeats delivery with no wasted movement, body stays under control, easy arm action, fastball at 75-77 mph, some with late run, early breaking 12-to-6 curveball, all at 65 mph, change up at 67-68 mph, some flashing arm side run.

Anthony Orlando, RHP, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Orlando is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Olando has a strong build with wide shoulders, high three quarters release, controlled to leg lift, accelerates down the mound and throws with some effort at the end of delivery, fastball at 75-77 mph, slight running action, curveball at 66-67 mph, gradual break, down in the zone, chase up at 68-69 mph, near fastball arm speed, slight arm side release.

Tyler Pyle, RHP, Richmond (MO), 2020
Pyle is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Pyle has a deceptive tempo to delivery, hides the ball well, throws with some effort, works in line down the mound, fastball at 75-78 mph, 12-to-6 action on breaking ball, downward action, 60-62 mph, change up at 66-70 mph, some with slight fade.  

Julian Rickman, RHP, Park Hill (MO), 2019
Rickman is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Rickman has an over the top release, body stays controlled during delivery, showed more command out of stretch, fastball at 75-77 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, has depth, looks to be good pitch as he continues to develop, change up with near fastball arm speed, 73-74 mph, some with arm side release.
 
Teague Robertson, RHP, Hickman (MO), 2020
Robertson is a 6-foot-1 147-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Robertson’s arm action and slender frame would suggest increases as he continues to develop, over the top release, body is controlled throughout the delivery, quick arm speed, tuck at balance point, fastball in the zone at mostly 73-75 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 62-64 mph, flashing depth and command, controllable change up at 62-65 mph, some fading action.

Spencer Wolf Weeks, RHP, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Weeks is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Weeks is long limbed and has an over the top release point, showed ability to repeat delivery, high percentage of strikes with three pitches, slight coil at balance point, in line stride, fastball at 71-74 mph, 12-to-6 shape to curveball, 56-58 mph, change up has slight sink, near fastball arm speed, 62-64 mph.
