Missouri Underclass Games: Middle Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Underclass Prospect Games on June 14 at the University of Missouri.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the middle infield performances from the event.  Although some middle infielders may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the infield performances from the day.  In the days to come we will break down pitchers.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Tyler Abney, SS, Smith-Cotton, 2018
Abney is a 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the top times of the event, and 4.56 home-to-first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load, level path through zone, hands work inside ball and stays on ball after contact, line drives to the middle and opposite side of the field during batting practice.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the event,  high three quarters arm action, quick feet working with exchange, quick release, mostly accurate throws, long legged and loose arm action.

Alex Adams, SS, Lafayette, 2018
Adams is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.91 60, one of the top times of the event, and a 4.54 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, wide set up, smooth load, consistent hard line drives gap-to-gap during batting practice, loose hands, quick bat speed, singled to left center in game action.  On the infield, over the top release, moves well to the ball, fluid footwork, clean transfer with accurate throws, throws have carry, 84 mph positional velo.

Jack Brimacombe, SS, Blue Valley North (KS), 2018
Brimacombe is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 5.16 home to first and a 7.66 60.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice, flashes power, slightly open stance, no wasted movement in load, quick bat speed with level bat path. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, field ball in athletic position ready to throw, fluid footwork, quick catch and throw, momentum through the catch, accurate throws with carry.

Jackson Caley, 2B, Pleasant Hill, 2018
Caley is a 5-foot-10 174-pound right-handed hitting second-baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and has a 4.61 home-to-first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, approach is to opposite gap, loose and quick hands, controlled leg kick, level path to the ball, smooth load with no wasted movement, doubled to left in game action. On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, made all plays cleanly, over the top arm slot, plays through the ball, accurate throws. 

Cameron Chick, 2B, Hickman, 2018
Chick is a 5-foot-9 165-pound switch-hitting second-baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class, Nebraska commit.  He ran a 6.68 60, fastest 60 time of the event, and a 4.28 home to first from the left side.  He has an exit velo of 85 mph from both sides of the plate, one of the top velos from both sides at the event. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach from both side with pop, attacks ball with aggressive sing from both sides, solid consistent contact, feel for the barrel, loose hands.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, fluid glove-to-hand transfer, fluid footwork, accurate throws, short over the top release, accurate throws. 

Jacob Crayne, SS, McCluer North, 2018
Crayne is a 5-foot-9 155-pound switch-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and a 4.52 home-to-first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, pull side line drives during batting practice, creates whip in bat, loose.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, three quarters release, plays through the catch, clean transfer, accurate throws.
 
Jayton Cromer, SS, Lebanon, 2019
Cromer is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and a 4.79 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 76 mph. At the plate, thin set up in base, middle to opposite field contact during batting practice, body stays under control during swing.  On the infield, mostly accurate throws, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, moves to ball well, feet create momentum through the catch. 

Drew Dempsey, 2B, Westminster, 2018
Dempsey is a 5-foot-7 145-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and a 4.76 home-to-first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, toe tap to load, middle to pull side line drives during batting practice, singled to left in game action.  On the infield, 67 mph positional velo, over the top release, fields ball in athletic positon with fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Louis Eckelkamp, SS, St. Francis Borgia, 2019
Ecklekamp is a 5-foot-8 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 759 60 and has a 4.50 home-to-first.  He had a 90 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos for the event. At the plate, aggressive swing with power to pull gap, quick hands, open stance, leg kick, hard solid contact during batting practice. On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, three quarters release, momentum through the catch, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws. 

Tyler Fogarty, 2B, Chaminade, 2019
Fogarty is a 5-foot-8 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.00 60 and a 4.45 home to first, one of the top RHH times of the event..  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, consistent solid contact to the middle and pull side of the field, balanced set up, smooth load, flashed some power to pull gap, level bat path, loose hands with feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fluid actions with feet working with hands, plays through the catch, accurate throws. 

Jason Gonzalez, SS, Lee’s Summit North, 2018
Gonzalez is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.40 60 and a 4.68 home-to-first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH velos of the event. At the plate, wide base with minimal stride, aggressive swing, power to the pull gap, gap-to-gap approach, level swing path, strong hands, reached on shortstop error in game action.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick arm action, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, accurate throws.

Branden Harder, 2B, Nevada, 2018
Harder is a 5-foot-9 157-pound right-hitting second-baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has an 84 mph exit velo.  He runs a 7.19 60 and 4.46 home-to-first, one of the top RHH times of the event. At the plate, at the plate, balanced stance, short stride, repeats swing, swing produced pull side line drives, singled to left in game action.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick feet in sync with quick catch and throw, plays through the ball, accurate throws with carry, 75 mph positional velo.

John Herrman, SS, Blue Springs South, 2019
Herrman is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 6.96 60, one of the fastest times for the event, and a 5.01 home-to-first.  His exit velo was 86 mph, one of the top RHH velos for the event.  At the plate, athletic stance, controlled load into back side, pull side contact during batting practice, quick bat speed, feel for the barrel, singled to the right side in game action, line out to third. On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick exchange, momentum towards first to throw, accurate throws.

Ryan Houseman, SS, Hickman, 2018
Houseman is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He runs a 7.18 60 and a 4.53 home to first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, wide base, short stride, smooth load, level path that stays on ball after contact, gap-to-gap approach, flash some power to pull gap.  On the infield, short high three quarters arm action, loose arm action, accurate throws, moves to ball well fielding ball in athletic position, 77 mph positional velo. 

Miles Hudson, SS, McCluer North, 2018
Hudson is a 5-foot-9 159-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.84 home-to-first.  He has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, minimal load, short stride, middle of the field contact during batting practice, singled to centerfield in game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork creating momentum through the catch, clean glove-to-hand exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Jaxon Krueger, 2B, Kearney, 2018
Krueger is a 5-foot-10 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has a 73 mph exit velo.  He runs a 7.51 60 and a 5.04 home to first. At the plate, wide set up in base, short stride, no wasted movement, swing produced pull side line drives, singled to center field in game action.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fields ball in position ready to throw, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws. 

Will Larson, SS, Webb City, 2018
Larson is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He runs a 7.09 60 and a 4.30 home-to-first, one of the top LHH times of the event.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, loose hands, quick bat speed, flashed pull side power, feel for the barrel.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, athletic footwork, quick catch and throw, accurate throws, 81 mph positional velo.

Logan Mackay, SS, Blue Springs, 2018
Mackay is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He runs a 7.22 60 and a 4.74 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 77 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled leg kick, swing produced mostly pull side line drives.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, soft hands, made all plays cleanly, accurate throws. 

Gage Miller, 2B, Mill Valley (KS), 2018
Miller is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 67 mph.  He runs a 7.06 60 and a 4.06 home to first, one of the top LHH times of the event. At the plate, swing produced consistent contact to the middle of the field, balanced stance, slightly open, smooth rhythm, loose hands, feel for barrel, repeats swing.  On the infield, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position, fluid transition between catch and throw, mostly accurate throws, 74 mph positional velo.

Bryan Payton, 2B, Lee’s Summit West, 2019
Payton is a 5-foot-9 145-pound switch-hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He runs a 7.54 60 and a 4.52 home to first.  He has an exit velo of 75 mph from the right side and an 81 mph exit velo from the left side.  At the plate, has open stance from the left side, level path though the zone, middle of the field line drives, more square in his stance from right side, early stride with level path, pull side contact from right side, reached on error in game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, gain ground towards 1B after catch, fluid footwork and exchange, accurate throws. 

James Perry, SS, Liberty North, 2018
Perry is a 6-foot-4 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 89 mph, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the best times at the event and a 4.69 home-to-first.  At the plate, wide stance with short stride, strong hands with fast bat speed, pull side power, hits with leverage, doubled to left-center in game action.  On the infield, 87 mph positional velo, top velo for the event, over the top release, plays through the ball, quick catch and throw, athletic. 

Davis Platt, SS, Staley, 2018
Platt is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He runs a 7.01 60 and a 4.30 home-to-first, one of the top RHH times of the event.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg kick, no wasted movement in hands, gap-to-gap approach, singled to centerfield in game action.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, quick to the ball, quick and short high three quarters release, athletic actions, accurate throws. 

Jonathan Reese, SS, Rolla, 2018
Reese is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.85 60, one of the top times of the event, and a 4.54 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, controlled leg kick, flashed oppo power, quick hands, fast bat speed, gap-to-gap approach, aggressive, doubled to left-center gap in game action.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, high three quarters release, fluid footwork, quick exchange, accurate throws.

Karsen Reid, 2B, Smithville, 2018
Reid is a 5-foot-8 148-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.93 60, one of the top of the event, and a 4.50 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced line drives to the pull side of the field, balanced stance, no wasted movement, quick bat speed, level though the zone. On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball with quick feet, quick catch and throw, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, accurate throws, athletic actions. 

Brody Roach, SS, Lutheran St. Charles, 2018
Roach is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.14 60 and 4.65 home-to-first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, level path that stays on the ball after contact, showed power to the middle of the field, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing, feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, short over the top release, quick catch and throw, athletic footwork, accurate throws. 

Alexander Roberts, 2B, Nixa, 2018
Roberts is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and 4.54 home-to-first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, toe tap for timing, level swing, hard contact up the middle, stays on ball after contact during batting practice, singled to left center in game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, over the top release, gains ground to 1B after catch, quick to the ball, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Nick Schmidt, SS, Holt, 2018
Schmidt is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.48 60 and 4.96 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, short path to contact, hands work inside the ball, repeats swing, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, over the top release, momentum through the catch, fluid footwork with clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event.

Nathaniel Sems, SS, Westminster, 2019
Sems is a 5-foot-8 130-pound switch hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.59 60 and a a 4.47 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced consistent line drives up the middle, simple and repeatable swing, balanced set up, short stride, loose hand with level bat path.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, short over the top release, field ball in athletic position, athletic actions, projectable, mostly accurate throws. 

Brady Slavens, SS, Olathe Northwest (KS), 2019
Slavens is a 6-foot-1 156-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first. 85 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH velos of the event. At the plate, aggressive swing, balanced stance, smooth rocking load, flashed power to pull side, swing produced mostly pull side line drives, level path, quick bat speed.  On the infield, moves aggressively to the ball, plays through the catch, 81 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm action, loose arm action, mostly accurate throws. 

Wyatt Sparks, SS, Aurora, 2018
Sparks is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.97 home-to-first.  He has a 93 mph exit velo, top RHH velo for the event. At the plate, open stance, quick bat speed, flashes power to pull gap, quick and level though the zone, stays on ball after contact, singled through the hole at shortstop in game action.  On the infield, short over the top release, fluid footwork, creates momentum through the catch, accurate throws, athletic actions, 83 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the event.

Zac Voss, SS, Seckman, 2018
Voss is a 6-foot-1 167-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.64 60 and a 4.80 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo.  At the plate, balance set up, early short stride, middle of the field line drives, loose hands, level path though the zone. On the infield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, athletic actions, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, plays through the ball.

Alex Winscher, SS, Fort Zumwalt West, 2018
Winscher is a 6-foot-1 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and a 5.03 home to first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, balanced set up, short inline stride, level path through extension, middle of the field contact, singled to right in game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, accurate throws, fluid footwork with clean exchange, high three quarters release. 

Nolan Wosman, SS, Palmyra, 2019
Wosman is a 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and a 4.50 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo, one of the top velos for the event. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach with mostly pull side line drives, flashed power, quick hands and bat speed, level though the zone, balanced set up, repeats. On the infield, aggressive through the ball, momentum though the catch, high three quarters release, accurate throws with carry, 83 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event.
