Shon Plack
Kansas Scouting Director

Ryan Simons (Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2016) is a 6-foot-1 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  Simons ran a 6.72 60, fastest time for the Class of 2016 Games in August,  At the plate, Simons starts in wide stance at the plate and simply picks foot up and sets it down to load. He has minimal hand movement pre-swing and gap-to-gap approach. He has an exit velo of 77 mph.

In the outfield, Simons uses a crow hop to gain momenum, and has a high three-quarters release.  He play through the catch with a clean exchange, quick release, and throws the ball on a line accurately at 84 mph positional velo.  Also one of the best for the Class of 2016 Games.

Simons is still improving his 60 time and is currently taking visits to schools this time.  Here a closer look inside the recruitment of Ryan Simons.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Simons: I am looking to major in Graphic Design, Journalism, Computer Science, and/or Video Production.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics?  And how did your team do? Name some players that will have an impact on  the 2016 season.

Last years varsity just fell short of a state title. The varsity at SMNW was loaded last spring with a strong senior class of players that went on to the next level, so I was fortunate that the coaches let me get playing time on junior varsity last year.  The additional at bats helped me improve my hitting and I was able to maintain an average over .400 as well as lead my summer team with .443 average in 106 plate appearance.  This year's returning class will be full of senior talent, so I would hate to leave anyone out.  But it should be an exciting spring for SMNW Baseball.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Simons: Work on adding size to my frame, get stronger, and help the Cougars win state.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Simons: During the summer I played for the 17U Cavaliers/Yeager and during fall ball I played for the 18U Cavaliers/Urick

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Simons: I have played Club/Premier Soccer since I was nine years old all the way through May 2015. Playing soccer definitely helped me with my speed and I had some of my fastest 60 times this year, with my best of 6.47 at JCCC Scout Camp, 6.72 at PBR 2016 Games, and just recently 6.54 at Lawrence Scout Day.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Simons: ACT 25 and GPA 3.32
