Player Spotlight: RHP Aaron Funk (Lawrence Free State, 2017)

Aaron Funk (Lawrence Free State, 2017) is a projectable 6-foot-5, 201-pound right-handed pitcher. He has an up-tempo delivery and works to a tall balance point. Funk works uphill a bit and strides slightly open resulting in falling off to the first-base side. His fastball has running action, 84-89 mph and touched 91 mph. Breaking ball with 11/5 shape, at times sharp, 70-75 mph. Change-up 78-79 mph.

Funk was named 2nd Team All-State in Kansas' 6A Class last spring, leading Free State to it's second straight state championship. In 2015, Funk was a member of the Team Select at the PBR Future Games. He has just finished his summer season with Mac N Sietz and is preparing for another run at that state championship in the spring. 

Here is a look inside the recruitment of Aaron Funk.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Funk: A school that has a good business program

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Funk: My junior year went really well. I ended my regular season era of 1.17 with 63 innings with 64 strikeouts. As a team we made it back the the 6a State Championship but lost to a good Shawnee Mission East team in extra innings.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Funk: My goals for my senior year are to help lead my team back to the State Championship game

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Funk: I finished my summer with the 17u Mac-N-Seitz Elite. I am playing with North East Baseball this fall.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Funk: I do not play other sports

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Funk: 21 ACT and 3.2 GPA
